animals for the children. Also, I called Dorothy to contribute my easel & palette to the Home for the Waifs & Strays. I would like the boys to make use of them. Certain to be talent amongst them.

It is interesting to be on one's way again, feeling considerably stregthened in spirit & feelings for the first time conscious of the fruition of maturity.

Next to me sits a fresh looking, red faced young man, a Mr. Tyler, soldier, who is flying back, "To see me sick mother" - on leave. The Indians about me - to the left in the plane, preserve their own manners of eating with their fingers, each having two cups of water placed on the floor to dip their fingers in. They carry their own spices with which to season their food & remove their shoes - and in general make themselves feel at home. The westerners have much to learn in this respect.

To make a long story short, although the plane landed at 2.45- by the time I got through customs & got to town on the BOAC Bus, it was past 5 A.M. The bus stopped at the BOAC office to check on hotel reservations - only to have me find out my reservation for a single at the Imperial had not been confirmed. All they could get was a double at the Ambassador for 69 rupees daily, all inclusive (instead of 4 or 5 dollars daily - 14.00) I had to take it & get off my feet and into bed. Fortunately, Dr. (Chergivitsky) who was on the plane & has met Hacohen in Rangoon - took me in his cab to the hotel. Got to sleep at 6.15 and have been up since 9.15 AM.

Woke up to find myself in a luxurious large room with large bathroom (containing a frigidaire). Large French windows & private balcony. Garden furniture, tastefully decorated - as far as hotel rooms go - flowers in vases
