Had good trip to Tel Aviv - did not get to the hotel till midnight. Hotel Gazit, 2 Zamenhof St. 8 Kikar Dizengof, Phone 25010. Paul Olshansky, mgr, of the hotel - a character. Jew, fairly tall, quick, amiamble. Used to be in the perfume business in London & Paris - knows all the best hotels in Europe, dresses well, has chic & works here from 8 AM till 2 & 3 AM - with a slight break for rest for $10.00 weekly plus tips. "I don't mind the physical work - so long as I have no nervous,

Up at 6.15 AM - as usual. When will I be able to sleep a little more? Breakfast before 8 - & called the Israelis & Oleiski. Oleiski came over at 9.30 AM. & took me along with him (with Nick & Mr. Skidal, secretary of Ort) to Ramleh, ancient Arab town, with Old Mosques stone houses, winding streets, picturesque views. Jews of all types live there now. Poorer class, Arabs, Bulgarians, Rumanians, living as they did in the old countries. Bare feet, native costumes. I was happy to see this colorful spot - made me less homesick for the East. Beautiful bits for painting; just 1/2 hr.'s drive from Tel Aviv. The ruins of the old aqueduct go back to Roman times.
