Sorrento

Peasant men & women did native dances - 'Tarantella' - the traditional local dance & song. (Clack castanet used by men with tambourines by the women) Very poorly performed Surprise of the evening for me - the guide, whom I hadn't looked at or met, a handsome young man of about 28 - asked me to go out dancing afterwards in the local night club. I should really have liked to dance - but was tired - afraid of a late evening because of tomorrow's activities to last night's sleeplessness. Instead, a good hot bath & early to bed for me.

Capri, Anacapri

Saturday. April 30

8.30 AM - Departure for Capri
We cross to the Blue Grotto where small rowing boats will take us to the Marina Grande. There, the funicular will take us to Capri. The song - Isle of Capri - true. The bay - Indigo Blue - & the solemn

Capri

rocks towering in beautiful forms, enhanced by the green of the trees, facing the water - beautiful. The palace of fortress of Emperor Barbarossa on the highest mountain - Axel Munthe's house (author of San Michele) Home of Ginger Rogers & Gracie Fields' Restaurant. Truly of the Idyllic corner of the world. -The Blue Grotto, water deep acquamarine so that the light reflected from the water turns the grey brown stones of the cave to blue as though lit by stage lights. Ones hand in the water shows [[strikethrough]] slightly [[/strikethrough]] pale blue.

Back to Capri for lunch on terrace overlooking the acquamarine water shaded with free forms of indigo blue - here & there a venetian red tone of rock coming thru. Always, everywhere, music. Usually the accordion, guitar & violin. Everyone sings, from the waiters to the proprietors.

The launch trip from Sorrento to Capri was beautiful. I sat out in front of the boat with Gino, the guide and with George Goudé
