September 21

Dear folks,

Received your letter tonight.

It has been very nice here with Anna (still am). She is not so alone as Elizabeth said, she has one girl in the apt house with whom we shall dine tomorrow eve and who went to church with us last Sunday; and quite a few at the museum. Did I tell you how the Registrar, a young married man, took us out to Concord Saturday afternoon? Sunday we went over to the museum, largely on foot; Monday I was out with Barbara Sherman, Tuesday we went to the movies; tomorrow we dine, out perhaps, see a show. She does not have the next morn to sleep, as I do, but I do dishes & things after she has left, and she seems to be enjoying being able to stay up, as she has been accustomed to having to do the housework after her aunt was bedded down.

[[strikethrough]] Did [[/strikethrough]] Hope's mother (I ate with Hope lunch today) wasn't her freshman sister, but his [[?]] sister Bertha was. Her as happy & am told her aunt's leaving this [[strikethrough]] year [[/strikethrough]] summer... We live on vegetables, heaps of them; all sorts of squashes, eggplant, celery cooked included, & lots of carrots. She makes refrig ice cream of a kind very simple & quick. 1 pt milk, 1 cup sugar, 4 t cornstarch, pitcher cream, & lemon juice - that is really good, Dol, you.
