Dear folks,

It is raining here now; a thunder-storm set it off last night. People are sitting about studying quietly. [[strikethrough]] The sight of [[/strikethrough]] Radcliffe at study [[strikethrough]] is always [[/strikethrough]] has been all over the quad (dorm) for the last few sultry days.

Barbara Sherman has profited by my not taking the hotel job -- she has to earn herself through next year, with difficulty. She is a real rough diamond: [[strikethrough]] both by inquisitiveness, for knowledges [[/strikethrough]] sparky individualist's dialect, very warm-hearted (taking up [[strikethrough]] even [[/strikethrough]] the freshmen) all other individuals who want help), in awe of knowledge.

I took Herby to the Spring Formal, after the two cocktail parties he took me to, at which there were some noteworthy people: as Mr Ellman, author of the best new book on Yeats. The first party was [[strikethrough]] all [[/strikethrough]] the upper ranks of English department young men, the second, the lower. He was [[strikethrough]] somewhat [[/strikethrough]] disappointed with my ability at cocktail parties, I'm afraid. I feel all sorts of crippling incapacities with him -- but also that things would be easy & pleasant if I could get over the unreasonableness - for all were very friendly & mature people. He [[strikethrough]] gets [[/strikethrough]] has great ease in groups; has a basically optimistic nature [[strikethrough]] which [[/strikethrough]] and great courtliness.

Working pretty hard. Won't hear from Generals for a few more days.

Love,
Doris
