March 25

Dear folks,

The rehearsal [[strikethrough]] this [/strikethrough]] last afternoon was at symphony hall. We seemed to be in a deaf spot as far as hearing. Kaussey on the beat, & so were off it much & missed the effect of hearing ourselves as well. We also did not have time to go through it all: Saturday will be a real work-out if we are to be gotten into shape. Wed night Bill & I went to Bartok: excellent. He was still sick, & tired. I hope he is OK Sat! It is [[strikethrough]] rather [[/strikethrough]] a strain to be with him when he is thus. He says not a word & is hypercritical. Develops backbone in one, it does! Oh-no Oaklahoma [[Oklahoma]]! tonight-- Duffy's thesis interview (due March 28 it is) proved more than he expected. Polly asked me to an ice show I declined. Paul seemed friendlier; he wanted to read Hopkins sometime; when his soft spots are touched he suddenly becomes less casually gay. He's terribly God-conscientious in caring for Polly: I suppose Hopkins example (he had a heck of a time teaching in Ireland; but was immensely conscientious, almost killing himself) [[strikethrough]] will [[/strikethrough]] is quite real. Bill found a 50% markdown in 2 record stores; he had a huge pack this afternoon ($15). He has given me directions for assembling a radio-victrola [[Victrola]] like his-- costing about $100, it is superior in quality of sound to sets on the market of $500 up. Someday I shall assemble it, I guess, bit by bit.

Wish Dolores would write.

Love, Doris.

Ah- all vacation to catch up on my work, not long, but much of days can be spent in Widner. Bill's does not correspond at all, he will be having exams then, so I'm sure to work. Lamont library opened Feb 14, [[strikethrough]] so it [/strikethrough]] (no women) so there is now space in Widner.
