March 16

Dear folks,

Excuse the shoes (at bottom of page they lay on my way to class).

Am approaching the neck of the funnel fast, & am repenting my many sings -- a little. Choral is O.K.; but he wanted to celebrate his Monday exam by beers until 11:30 Monday, & we had to see "Ivan the Terrible" put on by the Harvard Liberal union right after choral last night. Slept till 11:00 class this morning; this afternoon I have to see Gwynn about my paper on Hardy for which I have done scattered work (next Tue), & write my tutorial paper on Sidney (for Friday).

Other data on next week will put an end to study until after it: This afternoon (after Ec quiz) we have a 4:30 rehearsal of it all with [[?Kaussy]]; Sat morning another of the same. Sunday we begin at 3:00 PM & take up at 8:00 P.M. to finish: a completely exhausting procedure with [[strikethrough]] no time to [[/strikethrough]] all spare time properly put into sleep. Will be fun. "Ivan" was very interesting; Bill said afterwards, "That did more to my suspicions than anything else has". It was a wily & ruthless young leader with a Christ-face whose main enterprises to secure unity were to gloriously attack a castle, pretend to be dead, & leave [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] Moscow till the people called for him: none portrayed with what would be considered virtues in any other land, yet were so seriously, with such great processionale, set forth here, as to raise a big question in your mind as to their meant [[strikethrough]] gravity meant [[/strikethrough]] gravity. The massive stone buildings gave such a feeling of strength. Played slowly, [[strikethrough]] sort of [[/strikethrough]] like "Beauty", to make it sink into the people's minds. I could see it so poorly Bill lent me his glasses at times & we were in the 3rd row. So I think I'll really have to get them if I am going to enjoy movies for the rest of my life.

Love,
Doris
