May 9

1978 - Tuesday - 55˚ at 6:45 - Light rain - cloudy most of day - at 5 pm 9/10 inch rain in gauge.
We repaired vacuum system - found stick and plug of dust in T-coupling- he fixed den lamp. I polished brass. To Ridgefield to find vest for Mary's birthday (sweater vest). Made cookies for meeting on 23rd - put in freezer.

1979 - Wednesday - 62˚ at 5:30 - Very warm day. Wes worked on repair of pond pump - going to Friendly Plumber twice for supplies (Had our hour at Robbies first thing) Pump still had small leak in pipeline by evening - discouraging. I watered - put more little plants in coldframe - picked asparagus. Cut back lawn and some below barn. Cultivated outside fence. At 5:45 went with Louise McKeon and Terry Haller to look at Gizela's garden.

1980 - Friday - at Longwood Inn - Kennett Square - Beautiful day. Cool. Morning at Hagley and Eleutherian Mills - sandwich lunch from Howard Johnson - to Nemours for 1 o'clock tour of house (Alfred Dupont) and gardens - Beautiful. Back to Longwood Inn for nap and drink. Dinner at Mendenhall Inn - on Route 52 - very good fish

1981 - Saturday - 28˚ at 5:45 - Clear - breezy day - good working weather. To Bogues to kill tent caterpillars - cut down one cherry to reach big nests. Dug up trillium and yellow violets from septic area - moved them to base of big rock and near cliff edge. Home for lunch - Wes shop hour - I cleaned gutters - Wes cut balance of lawn - I cut back. Dug up our white trillium, Mertensia and Winterthur red Trillium and took them to Bogues. Busy & good day.

1982 - Sunday. 52˚ at 6:30. Cloudy - not enough rain last night unfortunately - turned out to be very little - not measurable. To 8 o'clock Mass. Watered wildflowers - cleaned up house - Eileen brought up Boo at noon - will mind her while Eileen is tied up in Budget meetings. Eileen brought us Woodruff and Lily of the Valley. We planted latter on Bog Garden path. Took walk to Hemlock Hills. Eileen left about 4:30

May 10

1978 - Wednesday - 40˚ at 6:20 AM. Beautiful morning - one clap of thunder and rain during night - 2/10 inch.
Played golf first time 8:30/10:30 - course very wet.
Planted more spinach, lettuce and onions.
Wes repaired back garden gate
Cut lawn after lunch - did some trimming
Rose Breasted Grosbeak at feeder cocktail time - cloudy & cold in afternoon.

1979 - Thursday - 60˚ at 6 AM - Warm night - no blanket!
Wes took car to Honda for Polyglycoat finish - back at 10 AM. He finished pump line repair. Pat here to clean. Eileen here at 9 AM - we went to Rosses - Helen drove to Ridgefield - joined Louise McKeon & Ann Tracy for Orchestra Promenade - 6 houses on tour - mostly Victorian - best was Pepper's Coach House. Lunch at Louise Selver Spring Club. Home at 4 pm & Eileen stayed for a drink - gave her ride to MQ & Jule's. Thunderstorm lowered temperature from 92 to 72.

1980 - Saturday - fair day - left Longwood Inn after breakfast - Route 52 to Wilmington - 95 & 295 to Jersey Turnpike - at Eileen's at noon - home about 1:30 after stop at Marcus's. Wonderful trip.
Harrisons stopped by - cut grass around house - very high in front. 8/10 in. rain in gauge.
Rose breasted grosbeak at cocktail time - saw Wren. Domestic ducks happy to have corn again. About 6 Mallards.

1981 - Sunday - 46˚ at 6 AM - Cloudy - had misted overnight - we need a good rain. Wes shot his first pigeon - Cloudy but able to work outdoors. Joe Waller here - moved compost - cut dead branches from pine near retirement garden - put drain pipe near veg shed - did no lawnboy work as too wet - Wes and I trimmed taxus hedge outside bedroom - Wes cleaned basement.  I transplanted some perennials. Freemans were to come but phoned they were at Lake Waramaug for races.

1982 - Monday - 52˚ at 6:30. Beautiful morning. Walked Boo. Breezy day - getting very dry. Watered vegetables and perennials. Wes worked on well electric line - Bob Allen never showed up. To Ridgefield with bottles and papers. I had a haircut. Home for lunch. Roberts delivered the Brown Jordan table and 2 chairs. Cut upper grass. Wes moved chips to south near vegetable beds - cut out grass seed.
