May 13

1978 -Saturday- 50° at 5:45 - cloudy - off and on misty rain - no accumulation - didn't prevent outdoor work. Wes worked on big sprayer - no luck. Repaired hose bib at garden gate. I cut back and side lawns and cultivated back and perennial garden, splitting Jacobs Ladder and Bee Balm - moved some daffodils to Retirement Garden. Green's leaving cars here as they are getting new driveway.

1979 - Sunday - 59° at 5:30. Foggy - drizzle off and on - To 8 o'clock Mass at St Peter's. Measured veg garden - Wes drew plan. Picked asparagus - took some to MQ & Jule where we had dinner at 5 pm. Deadheaded retirement garden and back - azaleas coming out.
Hobbied for several hours in afternoon.

1980 - Tuesday - 61º at 6AM - Showers AM - Part sun/part cloud in afternoon.  To Mass. 
I worked at Greenhouse 9-12. Wright Till here to inquire about spraying for gypsy moth - will do it this week - showed us worms on pin oak.
To Mary Sells in Somers for luncheon - Mary F. the Cornells - Deb and Archie [[strikethrough]] Schienber [[/strikethrough]] SCRIBNER there also. Home at 4:30 - walked about.

1981 - Wednesday - 41º at 6:30. Sunny - All three crabs in full bloom - four counting the wild crab.
Did a lot of lawnboy [[Lawnboy]] trimming - across both bridges outside fence. Mike Mannion advised framers had worked fence Monday - driven off job early account rain - we dashed up to Bogus - first floor framed by 5 pm - also bulldozer was spreading sand for septic system. I went to Joan Minot's for lunch, shopped Brunettis following. Planted dahlias. To Rosses for drink at 5:30. Helen hurt leg in fall.

1982 - Thursday - 52º at 6 AM - Cloudy - cleared - no rain - Sunny and pleasant. To Mass.
I picked up lily bulb from Louise McKeon (the church's Easter plant) to Ballard to pick up Hosta Molly Ketcham gave us - left articles there for Plant Sale. Transplanted dwarf evergreens into gravel at top of wall - brought down Pieris Japonica and Tom Thumb Contoneaster and Japanese Iris. Watered some plants. Eileen can't pick up Buttons until tomorrow.


May 14

1978 - Sunday - 57º at 6 AM - Rain started at noon. Continued all afternoon and night - heavy at times.
Cleaned silver - made stew - read papers - after 9:30 Mass. To Emily Shaw's - met Mary F. there at 2 o'clock for her birthday dinner. Home at 5 o'clock to rescue plants on back terrace - soaked.

1979 - Monday - 58º at 6AM - Cloudy - light rain started at 10 AM & kept up all day - To Mass. I had a 9 AM date with Billie Newell and John Pinchbeck at Ballard Memorial Garden - will develop plan to block off end of garden - worked until rain came. Wes burned out tent caterpillars across road. Had 11:30 appointment with Peter Smith of Carnall Insurance here - will make proposal
Hobbies in afternoon

1980 - Wednesday - 53º at 6 AM - Clearing - off and on clouds in afternoon - cool breeze.
I went to Garden Board Meeting - 9:15 to 1 pm - picking up Helen Ross. Wes finished putting soil around raspberries. Used Jacobsen first time after repair - did all lawn but too close. I cut back, side, outside fence etc. Put in Egyptian onion in veg garden - Aquilegia & Artemisia Silver King from greenhouse sale. To Rosses for a drink at 5:45.

1981 - Thursday - 37º at 6 AM - Fair - To Mass. Gathered garden tools for man coming tomorrow for possible sale. I worked at Memorial Garden - bought begonias at Pinchbeck's with Ricky Harrison. After lunch Wes cut across both bridges - I did back and grass terrace. Planted gladiolus. Picked asparagus - cultivated veg garden. To Bogus at 5:30 - planted more myrtle - walked thru house - noticed variance in garage alcove - Mike said he would change it

1982 - Friday - 46º at 6:30. Fair - Walked Buttons. Eileen came at noon to pick her up. Bob Allen completed the pump work - hurray! Watered everything to hold for weekend. Gizella will water solarium plants Packed for Keeler Tavern trip to Shelburne - left home at 4:15 - bus left the Tavern at 5:05 - beautiful country along Route 22 - reached Shelburne Inn at 10 o'clock - 25 people - John & Janet White - the McKeons. Polly Pond - Mary Sullivan - Anne ? - Linda Hanley - Helen Keeler
