May 17

1978 - Wednesday - 50° at 6 AM. Foggy. Rain in gauge for yesterday 9/10 inch. Some mist during day but we did work outdoors - Wes raked flood debris over little bridge - trimmed low juniper there. I picked up 4 bridge tables from Ruth Sharp & delivered them to Greenhouse - at 3 o'clock to Mrs Pattersons for tea cup she is loaning for meeting Tuesday and her card table. Planted candytuft and verbena at grass terrace. Picked asparagus

1979 - Thursday - 40° at 5:30 - Beautiful. Sprayed for birch leaf miner from 6 to 7 AM. Wes used Lawnboy for trimming -  most of day. He worked on road grading. Brought 2 bags of chips to terrace - used for side of platform and neighboring foundation planting. Moved birdfeeder [[bird feeder]] off terrace. Cultivated front, side and back gardens. Watered transplants. Moved crowded perennials - fed and watered that garden. Potatoes appearing.

1980 - Saturday - 36° at 5:45 AM. Clear lovely day until late afternoon. Garden Mart at Ballard Park - [[strikethrough]] peeked [[/strikethrough]] Wes drove me to Helen's at 8 AM. Worked until noon -, Wes and Alec took us to lunch at Touchstones - worked from 3 to 5:30 - on grounds - Wes took sod from Sargeant Crab to bare spot at old corn feeding place. I planted Artemisia Silver Mound in perennial garden - picked spinach for salad tomorrow - made 2 cakes - one fell.

1981 - Sunday - 46° at 6 AM - Beautiful - Wes used Eileen's gun to scare off pigeons - 13 at corn - he has killed 10. To 8 o'clock Mass. Joe Keelers here at pond to trim juniper - used lawnboys and weed eater on banks - trimmed pine at shed area - cultivated gardens. Wes realized big root pruner was missing - looked for it at Bogus - no luck. Planted Bluets, teaberry and clematis.

1982 - Monday 54° at 6:30 - Cloudy - had few sprinkles overnight - cleared to warm beautiful day. I worked during the morning with the Garden Club planting the boxes along Main Street  Wes had put big stone in pump ditch at North Side of [[?]].  We watered new plantings and the vegetable garden. To White Plains at 4 o'clock to take Mary to dinner at the Sassafras - home at 8:30.

May 18

1978 - Thursday - 49° at 6 AM - Cloudy - Rain at 3 AM - 1/4" Mostly cloudy day - sun out in evening, couldn't cut grass.
I had haircut at 8:30 - traffic slow on Route 35 - took Mrs Peterson's card table to Greenhouse - bought hanging geranium - trimmed along road - Wes rescued wood chips from veg garden - put back on paths - raked back road at west end washed out in flood - polished silver - ironed table cloth - cultivated back - planted some annuals.

1979. - Friday - 42° at 5:30 - light rain all day. To 7:30 Mass - looked at church rug (not bad) and pews (not good) I planted daffodils from perennial to retirement garden. Made 2 cakes. Wes worked in shop in morning. After lunch, to Bethel - Agway for bird food and garden supplies - "Miss Emily's" - Market and stationery. Little more hobbying.
Rain finished crab bloom - all were beautiful - especially the Sargent and wild crab across pond.

1980 - Sunday - 54° at 6 AM - Cloudy - light rain off and on during day. To 8 o'clock Mass. Fr. McBride
Eileen and Mary here at noon for Mary's birthday party - left at 5:30 - a good day.
Eileen brought bread - salvia - 2 hanging pots - the Buttercup china (some for Jule) Basil - Spider plant she had split.

1981 - Monday - [[strikethrough]] 47° [[/strikethrough]] 37° at 6 AM - Clear - beautiful day. Planting day on Main Street; left home 8:45 - returned 12:30. Wes balanced bank statement. Wright sprayed Bogus. Wes used Jacobsen - cut all grass. I transplanted tomato plants - had to put some in barn overnight as pots too big for coldframe [[cold frame]]. Cultivated veg garden. To Bogus at 5 pm - put line around clematis - framers hadn't worked today - more sand delivered for septic system.

1982 - Tuesday. 52° at 6 AM - Fair morning. looked like thunderstorm in afternoon but only a few drops here. To Mass. I played golf in morning very slow going - poor - score 69. Wes backfilled well trench. After lunch we watered until well water failed - used up. Transplanted three Leucothoe along paths to compost and put one on top of big rock south side. Checked on Gizella's plants they had gone to Philadelphia. Wes went to Agway for pea fence - birdfood - also bought pants & cap.
