May 23 1978 - Tuesday - Garden Club Day - Beautiful weather - Cleared terrace - hung plants (took in last night account cold) Early sandwich & Tony Tulipani (maid). Lunch at noon - Bill [[Schusser?]] (parking) at 1 pm. Members started coming at 1:30 - Wes parked 22 cars in field - 4 in driveway - ours & Bill's at barn - Ladies walked across little bridges. Most complimentary. 39 members. Hatsy Taylor lectured on wildflowers & guitarist was speaker. Frank Tracy returned chairs at 5:30 - Tracy - Ross' - Leonards for drink - To Old Oak with Alex & Helen for dinner. 1979 - Wednesday - Cool - cloudy - rain at 9 AM Kelly here. We drove to Yellow Monkey - admired shops - Kelly bought a basket for Eileen's birthday. Saw exhibit of horse prints and paintings by Sam Slavett [[Savitt]]. Home for lunch with Wes - Jacobsen repair man Robert came - Kelly left at 3 o'clock for Hartford. We napped - did house chores - a little hobbying. To 7 o'clock Mass for Ascension. Rain continuing 1980 - Friday - 50º at 6 AM - Warmest day of year - about 87º. After shop hour, Wes worked on turn-around. Out in center post for pole bean and six stakes. I finished planting salvia and begonia and fence at Holly Garden. To Basics for bananas and a few groceries. After lunch cut grass - planted terrace pots. Terrace littered with maple seed pods - Wes cooked flank steak on grill - good 1981 - Saturday - 38º at 5:45. Fair - Sun hits white crab at breakfast time. Road widening defeated - school budget approved. Very warm and windy day. Planted tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and squash seeds. Hot sun made plants wilt - put up screens Wes put in wire fence for cucumbers and transplanted those Put ageratum and marigolds in perennial garden To Bogus to see what had been done - sheathing on. 1982 - Sunday - 48º a 6 AM. Dark & gloomy Not much rain in night. Put heat on for breakfast. To 8 o'clock Mass - 1/4 inch rain - misty all day - No accumulation - Cold - put heat on. Wes balanced checkbook - I did wash - made first cake in microwave - not bad. Lunch - nap - note letters - Wes in shop. To Sobol's at 4:30 - new people to us there were Trudy & Norman Poiria and Nancy and Allan Rudolph. May 24 1978 - Wednesday - Rain & cool - to Atchley at 9:30 for 11 o'clock appointment Dr Baer at 11 - saw Wes at 1:15 pm - Heavy rain during day - NYC had record 2.1 inches. To Ichabod Inn near Rosedale for lunch. Bought a spade at Rosedale for Elaine's birthday - Home at 4:30 - took china cups to Tai Patterson - shopped Grand Central for groceries and Corner Texaco for gas. Early to bed - realizing how fortunate yesterday's weather 2.55 inches rain 1979 - Thursday - 56º at 6 am - cloudy - No flooding here but many NYC roads closed - Rained all day - some thundershowers in afternoon. Pat here to clean. I went past Town Hall expecting Window Box planting along Main Street would be called off account rain, but no. Worked until one o'clock - Then shopped Brunetti, cheese shop and wine. Home at 2 pm Wes worked in shop. I made button holes in pink shirt. At 8 AM there was 1.6 inches of rain 1980 - Saturday - 54º at 5:30. - Hot day - more humid than yesterday. Worked outdoors all day - Wes cut below barn - west end - across pond - I planted more flower pots - Transplanted lettuce is wilting. Planted beans, squash - 3 melon plants. Cultivated and watered perennial garden. To Sattler's at 5:00 o'clock for drink. Dan Macklin their guest. 1981 - Sunday - 38º at 6 AM. Fair - very warm - high 83º here - All transplants wilting. Put water on veg garden - Covered plants in perennial bed. To 8 o'clock Mass. Gathered all potted cuttings of taxus Euaonymous [[Euonymus]] Emerald Gaiety - Japanese Maple, etc. and took them to Bogus - Nursery at North end. Hartcorn came and went thru house - Alex took pictures! To Olive Lee Wildflower Garden in New Caanan - Saw many lovely wildflowers and got some ideas. 1982 - Monday - 45º at 6:30. Misty - cold Some light rain during day - total last few drops about [[?}]] inch. Cleaned house - brought down silver from attic hiding place - put away slide projector - washed flower pots - plated Marigolds - Squash and lettuce on heat tray - cleaned up garage - Wes had shop hour - Moved chips to path on South side - a good catch-up day - great for transplants
