May 25

1978 - Thursday - 55˚ at 6:30 - Rain in morning and mist until 3 o'clock - sun out at 7 pm.
Wes repaired wand sprayer - only one works. He went for haircut and shopped drug store and bought 2¢ stamps - rate changes to 15¢ on May 29.
I washed - ironed tablecloth & towels - made blueberry pie for weekend - made up bed in guestroom for Bit and Mike - Dave Macklin here for tea - to MQ & Jules at 5 for dinner.

1979 - Friday - 55˚ at 6 AM - Raining - we were surprised no flood - as of 9 AM - 1.20 inches water very high later in day and brown but not over wall! To 7:30 Mass. Prepared stuffed chicken breasts for tomorrow. With Louise McKeon at 10:30 to Lexington Garden to look at plants for church - lots of rain. Home for lunch and nap. Made pie - finished chicken etc. Wes worked in shop.

1980 - Sunday - 56˚ at 6 AM - Hazy - Beautiful day - good breeze. Much colder at night - forgot to shut coldframe.
To 8 o'clock Mass - to Marcus for milk. The Sattlers and Dan Macklin here for a drink at noon. We took them to Stonehenge for luncheon. Had a nap. To McKeons at 5 o'clock  - their 45th Wedding Anniversary. Cocktails and buffet - 95 guests out of 100 invited! Home at 9:15.

1981 - Monday - Memorial Day - 47˚ at 5:45 - Hot windy day - very dry. Covered all transplants - watered perennial garden. Wes put more wire atop pea fence - I sprayed eggplants for aphids - picked lettuce, onions and asparagus. Wes finished painting bridge - fixed drain in front of hemlock off grass terrace. To Bogus to water - took herbs from pots and planted them. House cool despite hot day - about 85˚.

1982 - Tuesday - 50˚ at 6 AM. Foggy - became rain in afternoon. To 8 o'clock Mass. To golf course after to sign up for next week only to find golf cancelled today and no sign up sheet. Wes drove me to Helen's and we went to Ridgefield for Garden Club trip to Luther Green Garden in Nelton - lunch at Three Bears - Richardson - Vick's Garden - Home 4:30. Wright came to spray so Wes was busy covering vegetable garden - moving furniture and washing windows. He went to Meekers and Dug Store - Bank and Marcus.

May 26

1978 - Friday - 62˚ at 6 AM. Cloudy - became sunny after Mass - returned Louise McKeon's flower container. We cut grass - not all because some spots very wet. Wes interrupted work to help carry MQ's loveseat and chairs to their den (reupholstered). To bank for weekend cash. After lunch and nap played golf - 2:30 to 4:30 - beautiful on course - lots of people. Planted our plants of cucumbers and peppers.

1979 - Saturday - 58˚ at 5:30 and cloudy. Water a little less brown - well under wall. To 7:30 Mass. Sun came out! Good breeze. Cool. Rain in gauge - 35/100. Voted on budget at 10 AM - To Evelyn Leeman's to pick up silver bowl for Garden Sweepstakes. Cleaned terrace. After lunch cut front, back across little bridge and below barn. Jacobsen broke down - Wes used Cadet checked garden - potatoes look bad, picked asparagus.

1980 - Monday Memorial Day - 38˚ at 6 AM. Fair. Watered all transplants.
Planted pole beans - after Wes put cord on pole - and tomatoes - 5 in cage - 4 against poles - Wes went to buy one more - watered veg garden.
Cut front - back - side lawn late afternoon.
Nice quiet day by ourselves.

1981 - Tuesday. 56˚ at 6 AM. Foggy - muggy - Nine male - 1 female Mallard for breakfast corn - and Harley. Hot, humid day - partly cloudy in afternoon kept temperature to 83˚. To Mass. Picked up Helen Ross and drove to Aldrich where took bus to Cary Arboretum. Home at 5:20. Wes had edged outside fence and cut grass there. Mike took him to Bogus - they discussed placing of big stone below septic fill and near cliff - was done - garage roof framed - water line connected and back filled.

1982 - Wednesday - 52˚ at 6:30. Fair. Golf 8-10 - beautiful on the course.
Wes finished filling in well trench north side of house - I prepared garden bed for rest of tomatoes peppers Gizella gave us, and cucumber - planted there in late afternoon. Cut grass on knoll.
Wes cut out path to compost.
To North Ridgefield Property Owners meeting at 8:15 - heard proposal of Rockefeller Center Dev. Corp for property off Shadow Lake Road (Rockefellers later withdrew).
