June 8

1978 - Thursday - 68º at 6:30 - Cloudy - humid - rain at 3 pm - another .45 Inch.
Shopped Grand Central (coffee $2.29 with coupon) Brunetti's - liquor - cleaner - Stop & Shop. I trimmed outside fence and cut at sheds - trimmed ground front lawn trees - Wes completed filling in pond pump area - he started cutting lawn when rain came. He worked on equipment - I made dessert for Cornels (Cornell's) visit tomorrow.

1979 - Friday - cloudy early - cleared later for warm day 75º. No Mass as I had unpacking to do. Cultivated veg garden beans - squash - beets. Carrots coming up. Picked strawberries. Shopped for groceries after lunch. Wes graded at shed and raked road. Early to bed - very sleepy.

1980 - Sunday. 59º at 7 AM - Cloudy - Rain .10 
Saw deer near veg garden at breakfast time - no damage. To 8 o'clock Mass - Indoor chores in morning To Ruth Sharpe's for lunch at 12:30. Walter Manelli of Nod Hill Road Wilton, and Father Tighe there. Home at 3:30 to sweep terrace and cut front, back side outside fence, across little bridge. Very windy and much colder in evening.

1981 - Monday - 45º at 5:30. Clear - cool. Ate first strawberries on cereal for breakfast. Beautiful day
Wes took car to Honda service for 20,000 check up - has 19,600 miles. Picked it up at 3:30 - had rented Ford. We cut across both bridges - leveled kitchen terrace stones using road sand. I planted Oak leaf lettuce and carrots - cultivated, sprayed and watered veg and perennial gardens. Mike brought May bill on house - $28,515 after deducting $6,000 advanced; Windows delivered.

1982 - Tuesday - 52º at 6 AM - Clearing - sun in afternoon. first time in days. Reinwalds and Eileen here for breakfast. Bit & Mike left for Canada at 8 o'clock - Eileen soon after. I played golf with ladies - clinic following. Home at 1 pm for lunch.
Wes had shop hour - made stone step in wood  knoll - With Gizella I went to St. E. Seton to plant Louise McKeon's flowers - only she never brought them. Home to plant the onion plants bought yesterday. Cut candles from [[?]] pine. Split Eileen's Astilbe into three plants.

June 9

1978 - Friday - 69º at 6:15 - cloudy - rain not yet over but prediction is clear PM - cleared by one o'clock - beautiful breezy day. Cornells here at noon (light shower) - I had prepared dinner in morning - Wes cleaned terrace and gutters. Wes cooked lamb chops on grill - very good - Dan Macklin stopped by to tell us he sold house. Cornells left at 5:30 - Wes cut lawns & I cut back, sides & trimmed.

1979 - Saturday - 65º at 6 AM - Hazy - very humid day - looked like rain off and on. Wes cut out one old blueberry bush at compost pile and pruned others. I pruned Drooping Leucothoe off breezeway - cultivated around terrace - Wes cut ilex at garage and replanted it  - moved corn tray to top of bank - re-edged around hemlock - cut big lawn - to Elizabeth Hall's cocktail party at 5:30 - went with Helen, Alex & Ruth Sharpe - everyone from garden club there.

1980 - Monday - 42º at 6 AM - Cold - windy - sunny. After shop hour - to Dlhy Ridge - Season Pass $225 - ($7.00 for 2 playing weekdays) Not bad game - new ponds at #2 and #12 holes. Started to rain when we finished at noon. Lunch - nap - outside to clean up debris down from high winds. Pulled out 6 broccoli plants blown over by wind and roots eaten. Put heat on - made cake - corn muffins and baked potatoes to warm house.

1981 - Tuesday 65º at 6 AM. Raining lightly - had some during night .15 in gauge - cleared before noon.
Nutmeg picked up Cadet - need new belts & sharpening. I went for haircut - did a little work at Ballard Garden before. Jacobsen wouldn't start - Wes cut big lawn with Lawnboy - I cut below barn. I trimmed dogwoods. Picked squash. To Bogus - windows installed - fireplace installed in livingroom - man still there working on sittingroom fireplace - ditch dug for electric - telephone line.

1982 - Wednesday - 48º at 6 AM. Fair beautiful day. Golf 8-10 - Wes good - I was terrible.
Delivered Rhododendron Wilsonii to Rosses - bought milk at Marcus.
Cut grass - cultivated garden - Wes added stone step to knoll path - changed location of Williamson bird house to end of garage - Buried 2 stones in wall garden top - planted Swiss Stone Pine - Took Tania lettuce - scallions - Herbs to Louise Mason for Bedford Show
