June 16

1978- Friday 39° at 6 AM - cold - put heat on. Became beautiful day. To Mass. Golf 9-11. I shopped banked and worked at Ballard Garden for an hour before lunch. Wes did all lawn boy work. Nathan Gilaide delivered load of stone for back brook. Spread salt hay around tomato plants and strawberries - Garden growing very slowly. Swallows hatched at barn.

1979 - Saturday - 60º at 5:30 - Fair - beautiful day warm - quite humid - high 85º. To Mass - to Marcus for milk. Wes had an hour in shop - I put fungicide on back side terrace & in front under trees - Trimmed Arborvitae at barn - and taxus there and at signpost. Dug up baby hemlock under one tree - potted it. - Lunch - nap - Wes spread soil on road - dressed it. I watered veg garden - deadheaded perennials. Wes cut flat lawn. To Castles for dinner at 6 pm - saw their Mexico slides.

1980 - Monday - 60º at 6 AM. - Cloudy - then clear - Played golf 8 - 10 - at end cold and windy. Shopped Basics. Lunch. Worked in veg and flower gardens. Trimmed remaining taxus around house - the barn planting - at entrance - Arborvitae at garage. - finished at 5:30. Beautiful evening.
Bit wrote they will come July 11th for Litchfield Open House day - bringing Gils & Carolyn.

1981 - Tuesday - 68º at 6 AM. Foggy - too much static to hear radio. 36 chicks for corn. To Mass. Very hot, humid day - 90º. Nutmeg returned Cadet.
Took wild blue phlox, Cotoneaster, Tom Thumb bleeding heart and achillea to Bogus. Afterward to Brookfield Lamp Shop with Hook & Ladder lamp and two French Railway lamps for electrifying. Stayed indoors in heat of afternoon - I wrote Memorial Garden report - later cut grass in back and grass terrace.

1982 - Wednesday - 64º at 6:30 - Muggy - cloudy morning - thunderstorm about 6 pm -
Golf 8-10 lucky to get there early as there was a match 99-3. Moved St Francis bird bath to back of perennial garden - looks good. Wes put a large stone on top of wall garden. Transplanted Hosta from Bog Garden to Maple will hide road - Wes continued placing stone between lawn and road.
Made a bed for Heuchera and moved them from Rock garden to Wood Trail along path. Bit phoned coming on 24th.

June 17

1978 - Saturday - 52º at 6:30 - Cloudy - few sprinkles. To Mass. Wes cut lawns. I cut grass terrace and trimmed in front. To Lexington Gardens bought Salvia for retirement garden, couple pink geraniums and Exbury Azalea Klondyke as replacement in back garden - have pulled up 3 Exburys there - roots eaten off by vole. Saw Ring Neck Dove on little bridge. Caught 5th chipmunk.

1979 - Sunday - 62º at 5:30 - Cloudy & cleared to warm day - mostly sunny - shower at 5:30 cooled temperature. To 8 o'clock Mass - Wes had an hour in shop. I worked on Sweepstakes Report. Had stopped to see MQ & Jule's veg garden after Mass. Jule gave us zucchini and planted them after pulling the Muskmelon hill out. Tied tomato plants. Wes dredged pond far bank. I edged herb garden at barn and around daylilies. Picked up Alex & Helen - to Ann & Frank Tracy's for cocktail at 5 pm. Borrowed Helen's typewriter

1980 - Tuesday - 40º at 5:45. Fair - beautiful day. To Mass. Wes had shop hour. I did wash - watered hanging plants. Played golf 11:30 - 1:30. After lunch put water on sun garden. Wes cut big lawn - I trimmed behind garden and in that area. Lots of Mallards - one white pigeon. Saw oriole on golf course - one here the other day. Saw Green Heron.

1981 - Wednesday - 68º at 6 AM. Sunny, fair, less humid - cool at night - unfortunately no rain.
Car hit 20,000 miles - it's been a great car.
Filled holes (transplanted euonymus) with soil - touch painted over front door, side terrace, livingroom front - Wes trimmed teaberry along road - I cultivated back. Cut grass and trimmed at Ballard for 1 1/2 hours. Picked peas (first!) and lettuce. Took maple mirror to Bogus Powder room to try for size - fits well.

1982 - Thursday - 64º at 6 AM. Cloudy - muggy - rained in night .11 in rain gauge.
Wes went for a haircut and bought bananas at Basics. I did a wash. Played golf 11:30 - 1:30.
I went to Dr Yanity who put a filling in my broken tooth - if it doesn't hold it will have to be capped. Shopped Gran Central (Grand Central) for Maxwell House coffee on coupon at $1.99 - returned blouse to LL Bean. Wright put on second spray at 5:30. We washed windows and covered vegetables.
