August 11

1978- Friday- 58° at 6:45- No breakfast before Mass - first time in ages and we didn't like it.  
Played golf 9-11 - lot of people. Phoned Williamsburg no reservations for October - or September. To bank - Bethel for butter ($1.49) - Wes paid Tibor for cutting tool - looked at baskets at Emily's for Eileen - cut grass - trimmed - deadheaded - picked vegetables - Hoed out wilted plants - to MQ & Jule's for dinner

1979 - Saturday. 69° at 6AM - Cloudy - light rain started after breakfast. At 6pm 1/2 inch in gauge and rain continued. Picked vegetables to take to Kathy Eason, St Stephen's Nutmeg Fair. Wes came with me. Then we shopped at Stop & Shop. Discovered malicious mischief - kids had come over fence along road - broke daylilies there - bent Scotch Pine (we staked it) they dug out baby Japanese maple & threw them around (we only found 4) sand in mailbox - evergreen pieces around - Wes made box for Garden show on 24th - I read old papers.

1980 - Monday - 70° at 6:30. Cloudy - cleared off unfortunately and no rain - hot and humid miserable weather. Golf 8-10. Phoned Dr Daws to ask about disposing of kitten - suggested Danbury Animal Welfare Society - phoned there - took all day and four telephone calls but we delivered kitty to Jean Young - overlooking Candlewood Lake - at 8 pm.  
Picked vegs & took them to her - Wes picked blueberries

1981 - Tuesday - 60° at 6 AM. Better sleeping last night. Over 45 Mallards. Supposed to rain and thunderstorms - but none here. Deadheaded - picked squash and cucumbers - more tomatoes eaten by someone.  
Packed Delft. Wes went for corn and more packing boxes. To Bogus - bulldozer back - carpenters putting up ash paneling - Kitchen man working and electricians 
We cleaned up junk wood & watered. Freeman here at 8pm to discuss purchase of rugs - mower - fireplace tools.

1982 - Wednesday - 63° at 6:30 - slept late - cloudy sprinkles - spoiled our golf plans - rain not predicted kept up very lightly all day.
Wes to Ace Hardware - Meekers - Drugstore refused to refill eyedrops so made appointment with Dr. Regan on Aug. 18th. I rearranged Solar furniture - looks good with new comfortable armchairs. Sent off White Flower Farm and Wayside Gardens orders. Made cake and floating island in microwave. Looked for clothes for trip to Ireland.

August 12

1978 - Saturday - 68° at 6:30 - rain before light. Partly cleared later (3/10 inch) Not a good day. Weather has been poor for past three weeks.
Eileen came up - we looked at Miss Emily's baskets - Eileen arranged to purchase six. Watched Pope Paul VI funeral - beautiful ceremony - After Eileen left - had a nap - deadheaded - Wes picked blueberries - very few - picked beans, squash. To "Star Wars" at 7pm Ridgefield Cinema

1979 - Sunday - 56° and raining at 6 AM. Rained all night - all day - at 6 PM 1.9 inches in gauge.
To 8 o'clock Mass. Picked lettuce and tomatoes for dinner salad. Eileen here at noon - nice visit. She left at 4 o'clock.
Read papers thoroughly - first time in long period

1980 - Tuesday. 70° at 6 AM. Cloudy. Thunderstorm last midnight just under 4/10 inch. Mostly sunny day - afternoon thunderstorm never arrived.
To Mass. Joe Keller here to work - started on cherry stump in dell - trimmed with lawnboy [[Lawn-Boy]]. Wes bought flagstone for flag platform and rearranged entrance walk - worked in gardens - cut out wormy parts of zucchini - transplanted lettuce.

1981 - Wednesday. 60° at 6 AM. Few light sprinkles. No needed rain. Lots of Mallards.
Wes continued cleaning basement - I packed more books. To Thrift Shop (clothes) more baskets to Ricky - left list of prices at Freeman's - Wes put ad in Pennysaver for mower at Squash's - bought candy in Danbury for Mannions - Stopped at Bogus - work continuing on kitchen - carpenters working on ash paneling - decided to keep the finish light.  
To Mannions at 6 pm for dinner

1982 - Thursday - 59° at 6 AM - Raining - 15/100 unexpected and welcome - Became fair - beautiful day
To Mass. Alex loaned his Jeep and he & Wes brought large (2x4) flagstone for north deck step landing.
I washed windows - cut South grass. Ceramic Tile of Danbury installed towel bar in our bathroom - Hurray! after almost a year. Lunch and nap. Golf 3-5. Picked beans - lettuce - tomatoes - cucumbers - zucchini strawberries for breakfast cereal.
