Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

August 15 

1978 - Thursday - 62° at 6 AM - Foggy - 16 ducks - To 7:30 Mass at Rectory. Joe Keller Day - Wes picked him up at 9 AM. They trimmed - Wes using Weed Eater. 
Joe cut front end - In afternoon Wes trimmed pacysandra [[pachysandra]] in back - Joe edged up near sheds. I prepared dinner for Father Medynski, here at 5pm. Wes cooked steaks. During day I deadheaded - very few daylilies left at veg garden - deadheaded hosta. Vaghi phoned secretary ready.

1979 - Wednesday - 50° at 6:45 with sun on - forgot to take it when I got up - Fair. 16 ducks - didn't fly away when put corn out - Wes cut off dead branch from maple over terrace. Cut grass below barn - big lawn - across big bridge. I went to 10 o'clock meeting at Vera's on Flower Show - home at 12:45 - lunch - nap - very cloudy, cold & windy so decided not to play golf. To Ace Hardware Wes' dial caliphers ready - shopped at Finast Bethel. Cultivated veg garden - picked vegs & strawberries 

1980 - Friday - at Williamsville - Mass at 8 o'clock. Good breakfast. To Buffalo's Allbright-Knox [[Albright-Knox]] Museum - Historical Society after lunch at Museum - Hooker had driven us all around downtown Buffalo - saw St. Joseph's Cathedral 

1981 - Saturday. 69° at 6 AM - Dark & gloomy  Lots of Mallards - 50 at least. Wes sorted and packed cellar shop. I packed China Box No. 1. - all the china in livingroom [[living room]] secretary, and most of Limoges. Did a wash - shampooed hair. Ghees bought red wing chair and took some garden books - clothes dryer - trellis. Susan Freeman brought roommate to see house and flowers. Terry Keller came by with brother Joe - had seen Bogus house. To 5 o'clock Mass for Holy Day and Sunday.

1982 - Sunday - 54° at 6 AM - Fair beautiful day - seen warm - nice breeze. To 8 o'clock Mass.
To North End Woods - brought back 6 Christmas Ferns - two with Hepatica - planted those on the North Knoll - other 3 under deck at North steps - Cleared Fern bank at north side of Maple Leaf Viburnum - Watered azaleas and wildflowers on North side - also the Emerald Gaiety on bank. Quit at 4 o'clock to read paper. Also put copper pipe in Jasmine spiral to replace rotted wooden dowel.

August 16

1978 - Wednesday - 73° at 6:30. Cloudy - warm - humid 15 Mallards. Deadheaded daylilies and perennial garden. To Anne Tracy's at 9:30 to address envelopes for Oct. 6th Garden Club House Tour - picked up Helen Ross. Wes put copper sulphate in pond - very bad this year. He trimmed pacysandra [[pachysandra]] at front walk and juniper at pump. Played golf 3-5. Vaghi delivered repaired secretary - put old one in garage. Picked vegetables and strawberries. 

1979 - Thursday - 41° at 6:15. Clear - Slept late and well - 22 ducks for breakfast corn. Pat here to clean. I worked at Ballard Memorial Garden with Billie Newell. Dolly Wetteman and son Andrew there cleaning yard. Home for lunch. Played golf 2:30/4:30 - lots of people. Wes cut grass across little bridge. Cool breezy day - wore sweaters.

1980 - Saturday - at Williamsville - cool day but sun warm in afternoon. Pam came to talk to Eileen but didn't clear up her reasons for separating from Tig. Joan, Wes and I walked to bank and store. I bought large cake cooler rack 
To Buffalo Zoo - picnic lunch - walk about Allentown in downtown Buffalo - 2 hrs, 20 minutes - back to house - Pam left for Rochester - we drove to Niagara Sailing Club for dinner - Hooker there - he worked all day on big tank.

1981 - Sunday - 70° at 6:15 AM. Fair breezy day - lower Westchester had ½ inch rain but not measurable here. Different Sunday for us as Wes went to Mass yesterday 
Wes cut lawn where it was needed - I cultivated and watered veg garden - picked beans, squash, cucumbers watered and sprayed pacysandra [[pachysandra]] off terrace. Put up fence around Hosta against deer. At Bogus cut brush below septic field - cleaned off big rock north of entrance.

1982 - Monday - 58° at 6 AM. Fair - George Edwards back on Q x R after a month's absence. Beautiful day warm sun - nice breeze.
Played golf with Brigid Mulligan - tournament for ladies and she couldn't play tomorrow - 8-10:30 - There was a starter on first tee! Moved dirt for cliff wall (Wes) and placed top stone. I cut south grass - Dug up 3 ferns and planted them above coral bells on wood knoll - Took up remaining coral bells from bog garden. Caught a groundhog Wes took him to Sapolin's. Watered. Cardinal flowers blooming
