August 25

1978 - Friday - 54° at 6:30. Rain during night - 9/10 inch - some doubt about whether veg. watering hit the rain gauge - Anyway grateful for rain - Dreary, cold day - put heat on. To Mass. To bank, Stop & Shop - bought wine - not scotch as only having one drink these nights - to Craig Jewelers - looked at ring last rain me - not much choice - bought gold cuff links for Wes for Oct. 40th Anniversary Wes worked in shop in afternoon - I cooked for Sunday

1979 - Saturday - 70° at 6:50 AM - Slept in - Light rain Loads of ducks - Thunderstorm and light rain in afternoon - 4/10 inch rain Wedding pictures to be taken at noon. 
Sofa & 2 chairs - reupholstered - delivered 9 AM - look good. To Stop & Shop for groceries - To Colonial Gallery for sconce for back hall - blue plate and 2 Delft (cachepots - vase). Picked up entries from Garden Show - Home for late lunch. Alex & Helen here at 6 for drink - brought miniature garden for us to keep for week

1980 - Monday - 55° at 6:30 - Fair - hot - some cloudiness in after. Water barely going over dam Only one more day lily along road.
Golf 9-11 - After lunch Wes had shop hour - I cut grass terrace and watered terrace pots - Wes brought screened soil to compost pile - put flagstones back of house at water faucet. Picked vegs for Garden Club meeting tomorrow - dug first potato plant - good yield.

1981 - Tuesday - 52° at 6:15 - Sleeping late these mornings - no Mass too much work - 1/4 inch rain yesterday
Alex helped Wes move lathe bench and other things to Bogus. Joe Keller helped me move daylilies, Leatherleaf Viburnum, lily of valley, mint & Hosta to Bogus - took clothes to cleaner - bottles to Reclamation - left Chagall print at framers - Royal Tartan china at silk purse. Main tile being set at Bogus - wood floors finished - more electrical work done. Reinwalds visiting Eileen. Wes packed tools.

1982 - Wednesday - 60° at 6 AM. Dark - gloomy - rained off and on all day - sometimes very heavy and high winds. 1.35 inches. UPS man told us trees down blocking North Salem Road - luckily no trouble when we went to town before lunch. Batteries and film for camera - papers to Reclamation - shopped Grand Central - picked up cleaners - articles from Caldor picked up flowers from church - Oliver delivered 55 bags of chips in morning. Picked up debris and staked after storm in late afternoon.

August 26

1978 - Saturday - 57° at 7 AM - cloudy morning - cleared at noon just in time for wedding pictures - Santini - Smith MQ & Jule here for lunch to watch. Pope John Paul I elected
Worked outdoors after a nap - Wes cut big lawn and across little bridge. I cut outside fence and picked vegetables and cultivated garden.
Pinchbeck delivered fertilizer - looked at "orange" grass in back - advised we call Cooperative Soc. Mass at 7 pm.

1979 - Sunday - 62° at 6:30 - cloudy - about 60 ducks. 1/10 inch rain. Became fair mid morning. To 8 o'clock Mass. Picked vegetables - bean - squash - eggplant - tomatoes - strawberries.
Cut grass in afternoon - except for banks and some trimming.
To Keller's at 5:30 for drink & buffet.

1980 - Tuesday - 52° at 6:30 - Overslept - no breakfast before Mass. Prepared vegetable basket to Garden Club meeting at Lil Durkee's - Billie picked me up at 1 o'clock and we drove via Route 53. Won first for vegs - nothing for flower arrangement. John Pinchbeck spoke on Horticulture for Dec show. Wes picked blueberries - cleaned up tree droppings under cherry and maple across little bridge  - Cut grass outside fence as Joe Keller not here until Friday.

1981 - Wednesday - 56° at 5:45. Some clouds / sun 
Reinwalds - Bit, Mike & Betsy - here at 10-2:30 for visit and lunch - Helen Ross' casserole. Kaster Movers took Wes' shop to Bogus - also my plant bench A tight fit for the shop but looks good. Grass coming up. Mike making hayloft door. Pat Haviland spread gravel on front walk. Tilers working and plumber.

1982 - Thursday - 53° at 6:30. Fair - beautiful day.
Wes graded north end of deck - bringing in soil Grass seed coming up there.
I did a wash - polished brass. Planted myrtle on north side where Wes had graded. Wes decided to extend stone wall there. Cut south grass. Uncovered rock in wood knoll when transplanting the wood anemone from under Exbury Azalea. Polly and Jimmy here - Polly to decide on food for Sept 3rd dinner.
