Beautiful day. Prepared for visit Eileen and the Englishes - here at 12:30. Three children - Chris - Jenny - Julie -dog Sharpie - They ran around - fished - Tig took them in boat. Dug first two potato plants - gave Paul Japanese Iris - Heliopsis - Heuchera. Bleeding Heart - They left at six o'clock - green Heron around. We were tired at night 1979-Monday-64° at 6 AM - Foggy - At least 70 ducks - more came in - about 100. Cleared to hot humid day high 86° - Thunder in afternoon but no rain here. To Mass. Too foggy to play golf. Wes did shop work. I did Garden Club study and made tomato sauce - To Dr. Yanity at 1 pm - fitting for new cap - had novocaine Noticed at cocktail time on terrace no barnswallows on pond - second brood left west over a week ago. Ron Nurnbey here with bill for sofa/chairs - we will redo dining chairs. 1980-Wednesday. 60° at 6 AM. Hazy. Green Heron on bank at breakfast time - 80 Mallards - Small Mallards growing but wings not big enough to fly - feed them occasionally on bank - quite tame by this time. Very hot day. Golf early - lots of people. To Agway for corn-for groceries at Basics - Milk at Marcus. Wes had shop hour after lunch - I did mending to avoid heat. Out later to water 1981- Thursday - 50° at 5:45. Day before moving day - Joe Keller (his last day) and Wes moved all pots - bird baths (except one) - bell etc 2 loads - I packed - shopped basics - Eileen left Miss Boo at Craighead and came to help us move. Gizella took boxes and articles in her car. Pat Haviland graded driveway and put on gravel. Very little grout in kitchen quarry tile - can't put anything in den. 1982 Friday - 59° at 6:30 - cloudy - gloomy - cool day. Cancelled our plans to play golf. I duq up Herb Lovage and took it to Louise - picked flowers for church - also picked our own marigolds and Heliopsis - Wes moved chips and soil for North side - made a short path to woods with chips. Louise gave me zucchini and I made soup - also Ratatouille with our vegs and Tempanelli's eggplant. To Jessups' cocktail party at 4:30 - they are putting in swimming pool. Home at 7:30. August 28 1978 - Monday - cloudy - rain shower - 67° at 7 AM. Cloudy 1/10 inch during day - but thunderstorm at night. Wes had his glasses repaired in Brewster - filled cans with gasoline - visited Tibor at his shop - alone - young Tibor had gone to Lehigh last Friday. We dug up sample of back lawn and took it to Conn. Extension Service - man not there - will call - I picked strawberries, tomatoes - beans - squash - threw out 2 yellow squash. 1979 - Tuesday - 66° at 6 AM - Cloudy - watched Green Heron looking for fish around pond. At 6:45 there were 30 ducks - at least 40 came in before 7 AM - using up corn fast. Weather too poor for golf. Wes in shop. I did work for Horticulture Committee - luncheon meeting at Elins - then to Garden club meeting at 2 in Teen Center - Gilbert Wheless Landscape Architect, New Canaan - slides of work on several houses. Home at 4:45 - Wes had trimmed pacysandra back of house - picked tomatoes and potatoes 1980 - Thursday - 62° at 6 AM - Hazy - Hot - Humid light sprinkle at 7 pm - 25 drops! To Mass. Shop hour for Wes. I made tomato sauce. Picked huge amount of squash and beans - melons. Put onions on wire to dry Watered lettuce and beans. Worked inside during heat of day. Took vegetables to Castles, Hermes and Tracy's - Anne and Frank returned from England yesterday so I returned her wreath and small plants. 1981 - Friday - Moving Day - Eileen with us overnight. Mariano Movers arrived 8:30 - 3 young men - move completed at 6 pm - including taking den furniture and 15 cartons of books - fireplace equipment to storage. New livingroom and dining room looked beautiful with furniture and rugs. We stayed overnight with Eileen at Ethan Allan Inn - entertainment was a ventriloquist singer you had to hear to believe. 1982 - Saturday - 57° at 6:30 - Fair beautiful day, cleaning - washing day. Arranged flowers at church - Louise gave us corn. Wes continued working on north wall - we dug up stones for it from the wood knoll. Wet down into woods and brought back big maidenhair fern, 4 clumps of Hepatica and 2 Christmas ferns one Wood fern(?). Cut north grass. Picked beans, zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes.
