August 31

1978 - Thursday - 64° at 6:45AM - Rain - light during day: heavy at times in evening - 1.45 inches 
Wes had a haircut = to drugstore - inquired of Mr Banks re Wes’ watch - not ready - to Sears for paint supplies - received gift of small Corning casserole - to Stop & Shop - 5 lbs sugar 89₵ with coupon (regularly 1.19) - to Tinker Shop to order outdoor barbecue table - put fertilizer on blueberries between showers - Terry Keller delivered 10 chrysanthemum plants.

1979 - Friday - 60° at 6 AM - Fair - Many ducks night and morning - must have been 100 at night - we put out corn several times. To Mass. Joe Keller here 8:30 to 3:30 - took seaweed from pond - cut grass after lunch.
I made ratatouille in morning. GE Service repaired dryer - broken belt - cost $45.83! After dropping Joe at Ross' played golf - I was a little better - Wes worse. Home at 5:30 to put in onions in shed. Beautiful day - for a change - lower humidity

1980 - Sunday - 68° at 6:30. Hazy - hot - humid.
To 8 o'clock Mass. Watered terrace pots. Left at 10:30 for United Jewish Center, Deerfield Ave Danbury for wedding of Lynn Castle and Ellis Abrahamson - then to Ethan Allen Inn for reception = big party - home at 4:45 - short nap - at least lie down - To Louise & Howard Willets for cocktail and buffet - home at 11. Thunderstorm here - but not at Willets - 1/4 inch in gauge Monday A.M.

1981 - Monday - at Bogus - no thermometer yet. Spent day bringing things from 246 - Tiler working but didn't accomplish much.
Cut grass - the places that needed it - at 246 - deadheaded garden - threw away leaves and straightened up veg garden. Dinner and shower at 246 - bed at Bogus - a bit confusing

1982 - Tuesday - 55° at 6 AM - Red sky - Sun 6:21 - 7:30. No mass, Father on vacation.
Cut off last day lily - it was a beautiful combination at deck step south side. I played golf with ladies 8:30 - 12 - Wes worked on grading at roadside - removed chips to vegetable garden path - raised grade around ilex verticillata. I transplanted Astilbe (3) to shade garden - brought in compost and leaf mold to holes in perennial garden - did some watering - cloudy day but only a few sprinkles in evening - dry.


September 1

1978 - Friday - 61° at 6:15 AM - Cloudy morning - Sunny in afternoon. Drove Pine Mt - George Washington - Old Mill & bogus Road taking mileages for Historic Preservation Trust Survey - in late afternoon called on Eleanor Grouse regarding history of area. I transplanted last daylily from kitchen terrace to corner of back garden strip - moved white violets to Ongaro Hall and near barn juniper - Played golf 1-3 pm - course wet but beautiful

1979 - Saturday - 52 degrees at 5:50 AM - Fair - Much more pleasant sleeping weather - At least 80 ducks. To Mass. Hour's shop work for Wes - I did Garden Club typing. Watered pot plants - sprayed for White Fly. Washed car.
Wes finished cutting lawn. I deadheaded and cultivated perennial garden. Wes put folding clothes dryer in old cement sleeve back of new shed - washed the ropes - cut limbs of trees over it. Picked vegetables and cultivated that garden: Longkeeper tomatoes yellowing. Beautiful day

1980 - Monday - Labor Day - 70 degrees at 6:30. Cloudy hot and humid - very dry wind.
Picked vegetables. Wes had shop hour. To Eileen's at 10:30 - lunch with her - picked up bread and rolls, took her vegetables and one pair Yellow Grasshoppers. Home at four pm - read papers - too hot to do anything. 

1981 - Tuesday - Rain last night - maybe a half inch - our rain gauge off it stand. Tilers finished grouting tile in den and kitchen - put slate on livingroom fireplace brought up more things from 246 - had shower there - we had our lunch at Marcus - Tibor and Gizella invited us for dinner at 6 pm - gave us duck plaque for new home.

1982 - Wednesday - 66 at 6 AM - Cloudy - cleared for morning - then cloudy again at noon - light rain all afternoon - heavier at night
Golf 8-10 - played with "Andy". To bank and Basics - home for lunch and nap. During rain polished silver and brass. Wes had time in shop and polished balance. Checked tablecloth for Friday night - put leaf in table.
Cancelled plans to go to Father Tighe's Fair in Stamford account rain. Electricity off 9:30 pm - 1:30 AM Thurs.
