September 20 1978 - Wednesday - 42 degrees at 7AM - Fair - 35 ducks 25 flew away before eating - Wes made corn feeder for ducks. I cleaned terrace - maple tree outside livingroom very sloppy - Trimmed around perennial garden - back garden. Played golf 11-1pm - course was beautiful - saw pair bluebirds - purple asters. Wes painted back of garage and overhand at bedroom - I dug rest of potatoes Pulled onion - threw out four tomato plants 1979 - Thursday - 34 degrees at 6:30. Fair. Only 46 mallards Glad it wasn't 120. Frost killed zinnias - Dahlias - Marigolds etc in perennial garden - eggplant - squash and we think the tomatoes although they were covered. Pat here to clean - may be her last time - waiting for Ron's pension to come through. To St Eliz. Seton Church - me + Louise [[?]] McKeon on placement of trees/shrubs. Picked up Helen + went to Caudatoga [[?]] flower show Keeler Garden. Wes cut lawn over bridges - To Carnell's [[?]] at 3:30 for dinner - Mary Krone Sells [[?]] there. Home 10 pm 1980 - Saturday - 51 degrees at 6:30 - Beautiful day. Wes had shop hour. I did a wash - watered terrace [[word?]]. Joe Keller was to come but cancelled. We bought liquor and a few groceries at Stop + Shop. Painted front garage shingles and spot painted some door panels for first coat. Wes primed new cellar door. Martha Crewe here at 2 pm to walk over grounds. Used lawnboys and did a lot of trimming. 1981 - Sunday - 50 degrees at 6:30. Cool - clearing - sun warm but sweater weather. To 8 oclock Mass. We brought sprayer to Freeman's - started to help Jim cut grass but Jacobson broke down. Mike brought Ed Pierce welldriller to discuss well. Mr + Mrs Werner Steckel [[?]] of Twixt Hills walked by + admired house. Wes cut off portion of work bench. Cut down small dead tree off cliff - cut logs left by Wright into fireplace lengths. I dug out stumps over cliff. 1982 - Monday 44 degrees @ 6:30 Partly cloudy - light showers AM temp not over 50 degrees. Put furnace on. Picked up flag stone for deck entrance. Rained steadily after 3PM 0.3" Went to Hartkorn's for dinner. Alice Castle called I had to regret a Wed invitation. Elinore Grouse brought her uncle, Geo. Washburn to see my shop. Gin Dromoland Castle - saw Yeats Home Thoor Ballylee thru County Galway. lots of stonewalls but not good looking country - to Asford Castle, Cong - beautiful area, County Mayo September 21 1978 - Thursday - 58 degrees at 7:30 - Foggy - Ducks having trouble finding new corn feeder tray. - by evening they fed there. Pat Molles' day - here at 8 o'clock - we left at 10:30 for NYC - stopped at Billie Newell's to leave her book - Saw Mill Road being widened - Ate our lunch on Riverside Drive - Dr. Wiedel at 1130 (ok) to N.Y. Botanical Garden - beautiful area - drove about - shopped at Garden Store - bought birthday presents + table mats. Home at 5pm. 1979 - Friday - 50 degrees at 7AM - First morning no breakfast before Mass. Gloomy - put heat on for breakfast - To Mass. Wes had hour in shop. I pulled frost killed zinnias, marigolds, dahlias - trimmed perennial garden - lots of compost! We carried it. Rain as we finished continued all day - heavy at night. Managed to pick strawberries - threw away zucchini - picked long keeper tomatoes. I had a [[word?]]. We [[Wes?]] bought more corn - we did a little grocery shopping - [[?]] for next Tuesday's luncheon. Polished flat silver 1980 - Sunday - 60 degrees at 6:15. Fair. Warm day. high at least 85 degrees. To 8 o'clock Mass. Prepared for Kellers and Tracy's [[?]] here at 11:30 for drinks - then to Arch [[?]] for lunch - very pleasant day. Nap. Picked strawberries - few zucchini - lots of peppers few tomatoes. Read paper. Eileen flying to London tonight for Texaco. 1981 - Monday - 42 degrees at 6:15. Clear. Eileen to Port Arthur for Texaco. Beautiful day. Cool morning - warmed up with sun. Mike + Lee worked on deck - Roger + helper-carpenter put on baseboards - made doors for our bathroom cabinet - put mantel on livingroom fireplace - we don't like that. Cut grass on south - Wes took out stump on cliff rock. I started bringing in houseplants. Plumber installed hand shower - furnace stack control - Howard and Jummy wired that. Didn't get to Alex Norwalk Hospital reception at 5 pm. 1982 - Tuesday 52 degrees 6AM Cloudy - no rain Ballard Greenhouse called - went over for 2 bags Ballmix Gizella came over at noon with brownies. They left about 4PM for Europe.
