September 24

1978 - Sunday - 40° at 7:30 - very cold night - had heat in blankets.  Over 50 ducks - Wes filled tray - some flew away.
To Ballard Memorial Garden after returning from 930 Mass.  Trimmed, clipped, raked - home at 1 pm.
Played golf 3-5 - course was beautiful - lots of people but we enjoyed it - scores not very good.  
Picked strawberries - put out corn for ducks

1979 - Monday. 42° at 6 AM.  Fair, beautiful fall day - sun warm.  Wes coming down with cold - sore throat.
To Mass.  Wes had shop hour - not successful.  I made preparations for tomorrow's luncheon - cleaned - set up table - needs a leaf - cut what flowers we have.
Heliopsis Golden Plume delivered by W77 - planted it on right side of perennial garden.  Wes repaired duck fence - fed 1 white duck to get them thru the fence - Kellduff's 7 mallards in back right - Wes released rope from birch clumps at [[? ribs]] - I had copies made of paperwhite forcing directions in Danbury - 

1980 - Wednesday - 42° at 6:30 - Clear - sunny and breezy.  Shop hour for Wes.  I worked in veg garden - composted cauliflower and lettuce.  To bank to inquire about loan to buy property.  received the forms - filled it out in evening   Wes painted cellar door.  Ricky Harrison came for flowers + vegetables - took hanging asparagus Meyere and Impatiens - played golf 2:30/4:30.  Mowed far side - I painted second garage door, Wes' bailer delivered.

1981 - Thursday - 46° at 6:30 - Light rain - Ellie (Benckerhoff) Spingam  of Oliver Nurseries looked over grounds and stones - preparatory to doing planting work.  We left at 10 o clock for Boston - American Horticultural Society meeting - Park Plaza Hotel - arrived 3 pm.  To Fine Arts Museum, by taxi.  Mass.  Horticultural Society Preview of Flower Show at 5:30 - cocktails there - coffee at MacDonalds

1982 Friday - 48° @ 6:30 A (AM)  Clear  Nice day.  Picked up two more flag stones to finish north deck landing.  trimmed and edged garden.  Worked in shop.
Goggie called at 5PM  Sure good to hear her.
G in Ireland - Rosapenna to Dublin - through Northern Ireland - about 1 1/2 drive there - beautiful country.  At Berkley Court Hotel 4:45 - took walk in Herbert Park - had dinner in Shelburne Hotel by ourselves - packed

September 25

1978 - Monday - 43° at 7 AM.  Foggy.  Over 50 ducks at corn - flew away after eating - Wes said quite a few back off and on all day long.
I left at 7:45 for Louise McKeon's - to Keeler Tavern for Pris Lee & Ada Franken - on to Bryant Park Garden Show - hostesses 10 to 1 pm - Cider & doughnut luncheon - King Tut picture at Kodak 6th Ave & 43d Street - home at 4:30 - Wes had used Cadet & trimmed - had battery recharged for tractor - dug out daylilies at shed - replaced big stone there

1979 - Tuesday - 44° at 6 AM - cloudy - at least 100 mallards but no white ducks - fence is working - one white duck got in late afternoon - couldn't find way home.
Wes cleaned terrace - put on storm windows.  I arranged flowers - prepared for luncheon - Polly Forcelli here 10:45 - Mesdame Ross - Sharp - Hull & Everett for lunch - Garden Club meeting at Anne Tracy's at 2 - Won first for Autumn Joy Sedum - Weigela and Leucothoe foliage in small pink pitcher - to Ruth Sharp's for drink.  Wes wants to go to Falls drive tomorrow even with cold developing - packed.

1980 - Thursday.  48° at 6 AM - Dark - showers forecast but none.  To Mass.  Bought corn for ducks - groceries at basics - left financial statement at bank - Wes checked storm windows - all in good condition.  I painted black handles on garage doors.  Cut herbs and flowers for drying - hung them in barn

1981 - Friday - at Boston AHS - Talks in AM by Roger Swain - George Jung - Thalassa Cruso - box lunch on bus
To Hunnewell Gardens, Wellesley.  (35 acres-lake-evergreens Muscat Alexandria Grapes) then Arnold Arboretum - back to Park Plaza to dress for Lobster Clambake  at The Vale - former Lymon Estates - Waltham - back to hotel at 11pm.

1982 Saturday 49° 6 AM Foggy.  Overcast 'till 11 AM  Partial sun  Cleaned house for Gug's return.
Wes left at 6:20 for Tarrytown.  To return Miss  Boo.
G & Eileen in Dublin - shopped Kilkenny Crafts Shop - left hotel at 11:30 for Dublin Airport - 2 pm flight to Shannon - flight delayed there an hour for engine repair.  About 7 hour flight to JFK - Mobbed at Terminal and Customs.  driver waiting - in Tarrytown at 9 pm - Wes there - home at 10:15 - I had caught cold unfortunately last 2 days - lots of colds on bus.
