October 2 1978 - Monday - 52° at 6 AM. To Mass. Canada Geese here before Mass but gone when we returned. I went to Aesthetic Committee at church 8:30 AM. After Wes & Alex picked up horse manure from Jessups - piled it in our veg garden. Wes to Dr. DeCarlo in White Plains at 12:15 broken filling - returned at 3:30 with temporary - return on the 16th. I had continued the transplanting of perennial garden - picked strawberries. 1979 - Tuesday - 58 degrees at 6AM - Cloudy in morning - cleared to beautiful late afternoon and evening. Wes had hour in shop - finished cuttings box - we made plastic cover for it. Cleared windows of plants for window washer, Vee Grenier - here at 2:30 while we were cutting grass - sure needed it. Plenty of ducks morning & night. Took Louise McKeon’s Dutch Bulbs to her and Wilkinson shears to MQ & Jule who returned from Adirondack trip last night. Rehung all plants - clean windows look great. 1980 - Thursday - 52 degrees at 6AM. Dark - looks like rain but not until bedtime when shower. I went to Mass - on to High School to leave Williamsburg Apple Cone in Industrial Arts Shop for copying. Wes waited for jackhammer man - he came at 1 pm and cut out cement at grass terrace landing - couple hours work. Wes cut flat lawn. I cut grass terrace and some trimming. Picked zucchini - watered few plants. Zinnias, marigolds & dahlias blooming despite dryness. 1981 - Friday - 50 degrees at 6:15 - Partly cloudy - cleared in late afternoon. 1.9 inches rain from yesterday. I went to Flower Arranging at Ballard with Gizella and Lucille Hansheer. Wes worked in shop - cut off stump squirrels was using to reach birdfeeder. Wes cleaned up area by compost pile - transplanted springeri asparagus fern - cutting it back severely. Mike made door to hayloft - inside door. To Ruth Sharp at 5 for cocktail. 1982 - Saturday - 50 degrees at 6:30. Fair beautiful fall day - trees are coloring - some leaves falling - Cleaned the house - did a wash. Transplanted 3 Aquilegia to shade garden - moved the Baptisia in sun garden - moved Mrytle to North step of deck - about finishing that area. To 5 o'clock Mass and Penetential Service. To Castles at 8:30 for their 30th Wedding Anniversary (actually the 4th) party given by Lynn & Ellis. October 3 1978 - Tuesday - 36 degrees at 7 AM. Beautiful - clouded in morning and was cold all day. Wes picked up pump and hoses - took down cucumber fence. I went to Ballard Greenhouse with Eileen's spider plant and my aspergas Meyerii - to Pat Caller to pay for apron & buy & pick up Helen's - Craig's to order heart charms - cleaner - [[??]] - Talbots - grey pants - blue pantsuit - plaid skirt. Helene [[??]] here 3 to 5 to made poster board for Friday's show - with Gizela took fuchsia to Ruggerio - home at 6:30 1979 - Wednesday - 60 degrees at 6AM - Had shower during early morning - rain around noon - 1/2 inch. Prepared for "cuttings" workshop at Ballard - it followed working in Greenhouse in morning. Dedication/Opening of Senior Citizens housing Ballard Green" - saw Gov. Grasso - went they apartments. Shopped for milk & bananas - home at 2 pm. To bank - drugstore - refilled Wes' pills - picked strawberries. long [[??]] tomatoes - cabbage - garden very wet. Wes worked in shop - brought in Asparagus Meyerii. Watched Pope on T.V. 1980 - Friday 52 degrees at 6AM - 45 ducks for corn - many more later - Pike here but 2 Whites & Penny have been missing for days. Prepared windows for Vic Grenier window washer - here at 1 pm with helper - did all [[??]] and storm windows and put them on. We transplanted daylilies and Achillia The Pearl in sungarden - Gizela’s Bleeding Heart to rear border. Bank notified us loan approved for land purchase. .30 rain in gauge in morning. 1981 - Saturday - 40 degrees at 6AM - Clear morning but mostly cloudy, windy and cold day. Opening of the last Danbury Fair - the 112th. I shopped Basics, bank and Marcus. Wes made cover for dryer exhaust hose - it is a platform for stepladder - closet looks good. I entered house costs in book - total now, including land, $204,000. I put plastic on kitchen shelves - need much more. Defrosted kitchen freezer. Wes straightened up shop. Transplanted white Heuchera to bog. Good day. 1982 - Sunday - 40 degrees at 7 AM - Fair beautiful day - Heat on in morning but 80 degrees in Solar in afternoon. Prepared for Mary's visit - here 12:30-4:45. Wes cooked chicken on grill. To Ruth Sharp's at 5:15 for cocktails. Cleaned up a lot of the papers before bedtime.
