Our Wedding Anniversary

October 8

1978 - Sunday - in Skaneateles - our 40th anniversary. With Joan & Hooker to Alphonsus Church Auburn for 8 o’clock mass. Our car wouldn't start and later on when got it going heater wasn't working. [[strikethrough]] Lunch [[/strikethrough]] Breakfast at diner in Auburn - Drove to Springside Sun arranged to return later - drove to Ithaca along Owasco Lake - saw Buttermilk Falls and Taughannock Falls State Park - wonderful dinner at Springside - they had 2 weddings and Columbus Club Dinner there - 400 guests - water pressure low

1979 - Monday - in Williamsburg - Bought a two-day ticket and began tour of Exhibition Buildings and Craft Shops - Raleigh Tavern - Brush Everard House - Payten Randolph House - Capital - Luncheon at Inn - beautiful room and service. Nap - more walk around - dinner at King's Arms - [[? You]] need renovations - even then people line up. Lots of vendors in town - Beautiful weather

1980 Wednesday - 42º at 6AM. Fair beautiful day. Left at 8:30 for Boston - Routes 84-86-90 stopped for directions, so left 90 at Exit 18 and reached Howard Johnson at 12:30 easily. Joan and Hooker there. Lunch at Hotel Rooms 527-529! Walked to Prundential Bldg - Walkway on 50th floor - good view - To Christian Service Church for tour - this public [?] building to see Mopparium - walked to hotel for drink - subway downtown - [[? Merron]] Oyster house  for dinner full dinner at Aegean - walked about Quincy Market - subway back.

1981 - Thursday - 48° at 6 AM - Clear, sunny, windy beautiful day. To Mass. Made coffee for Oliver workers - only 4 workers today. Ellie put more plants in wall garden - the wood garden was chopped up. We drove to Hyde Park, walked thru Frederick Vanderbilt Mansion - to Culinary  Institute for lunch good - home to cut grass - put up suet holder. Wes went to Freemans to show Jim [?] take in but he wasn't there.

1982 - Friday - 59° at 6:30. Dark - cloudy misty day.
Eileen came up at 9:15 - We left for Lock Haven at 9:45. Beautiful color in trees. Good trip. Picnic in car along Route 84 at Rest Stop - tables available but rather damp. Route 80 now has good rest stops. Reached Reinwalds about 4 pm - the Holindens were there - Kelly came with Barbara at 10 pm. Birthday dinner for Bit Holindens stayed with Gus & Carolyn - rest with Bit & Mike.

October 9

1978 - Monday - Joan & Hooker's 35th Anniversary. at Springside Inn, Auburn [[strikethrough]] and Taughannock Falls [[/strikethrough]]
Beautiful day, thank God. Hooker plugged in the coffeepot and we had fruit, muffins and coffee. Innkeeper couldn't find our bill so said they'd send it. Phoned Sally - drove over routes 5 & 690 to Maulers - there at 11:30. All drove to Casenovia (Caznovia) where lunched at Lucklane Inn - Davises to Barbara to airport. We drove down Route 20 & 28 to Otasaga Hotel Cooperstown. Beautiful fall scenery - walked around town. Cocktail in room huge (#121) dinner at 7 pm - watched Forsythe Saga - bed at 11 pm.

1979 - Tuesday. in Williamsburg - beautiful day - Toured Capitol, Wetherburn Tavern. Wythe House & grounds - saw foundry - Milliner - apothecary. Bought ginger cookies at Raleigh Tavern Bakery - had well laugh at Cafeteria - nap - we played 9 holes of golf at Spottswood - very narrow fairways - deep ravines & water - Joan & Hooker went bicycle riding. Dinner at Chownings. Organ concert Bricton Parish Church.

1980 - Thursday. Boston - Beautiful day - warm sun - cool breeze. Breakfast at hotel - subway to Park Street - walked Freedom Trail - State House - Beacon Hill, King's Chapel - Parker House for coffee - aquarium for Dolphin Show and walk in Museum - lunch on waterfront of chowder. Filene's basement - Granary Burying Ground - subway to Gardner's Museum - heard ancient music concert there - subway downtown to Deni's for fish dinner - Subway back to hotel.

1981 - Friday - 39° at 6 AM. Fair, cool day. Wes went for a haircut, shopped Basics, Meekers , [?] bank, Marcus & gas. I made blueberry muffins for the Oliver crew - seven of them and Ellie & John Oliver. [?] stone wall at [?] and three steps to path. Brought in all stone for wall garden. Planted C[?] [?] and Pine for front of shop door. We dismantled the compost crib with plastic and created another downhill. Cleaned windows.

1982 - Saturday - Lock Haven - Beautiful warm day - about 80°. After breakfast we went to [Nooliech?] - bought material for long skirt. To State College for lunch at [Whistle?] Stop - good railroad memorabilia. Visited Boal House - [?] - the Christopher Columbus Chapel - Back to Lock Haven for nap. To Mass ay St. Agnes for 7 pm Mass dinner following.
