October 10 1978 Tuesday - at Otesaga - Cooperstown. Morning at Fenimore House - Museum - furniture, painting, photographs - Picnic lunch in car. We played golf in afternoon - Joan & Hooker went to Farmers Museum - Met at 5 pm in our big room for cocktails = dinner at 7:15 - Watched Yankees lose first game of World Series to Dodgers. Cloudy in morning. - beautiful fall afternoon 1979 - Wednesday - in Williamsburg - raining Report of snow in Washington and New England. Cold here. Took car to Craft House - admired articles there - bought a few gifts. To Merchants Square - raining heavily at times - had lunch - when returned to car in parking lot found someone had broken back light and banged a brick in back - Sad & mad. Nap. Joan & Hooker to Jamestown - Wes & I to Shirley. Dinner at Christiana Campbell - Packed. 1980 - Friday - at Boston. Beautiful day - cool & sunny. Subway to Harvard - 10:15 walking tour - Radcliff and Harvard Yards - Buildings - Library, etc. To Botanical Museum for Glass Flowers made by Blaschkas (Dresden) Ware Collection - beautiful - lunch of Roast Beef sandwich and oatmeal cookie at Else’s - subway back to hotel - we took nap. Joan & Hooker walked around area - drink at hotel - downtown to Union Oyster House for good fish dinner after hour’s wait. 1981 - Saturday - 36° at 6:15 - Fair - Cool Day - beautiful. Needed sweaters outdoors. First day without any workers around in a long time. Hung shelf in shop lavatory - put plastic liners on kitchen shelves changed clothes line for wire to hang birdfeeders - hung the new “Big Dome Feeder” lots of chickadees & Nuthatches - Titmice - Bluejays - two Finches. Cut stump at South side - cut wood - Rosses stopped by with Wendy & Bob & granddaughter. - cleared a little at well location - on North Slope. 1982 - Sunday In Lock Haven - leisurely breakfast with Rehnwalds and Holmdens, Kelly and Barbara - then left for homes. We reached here at 2 pm - stopped along Route 81 for free coffee - had fruit and cookies with us. Warmed up Wes’ chicken in microwave - Cooked broccoli & potatoes - Walked Miss Boo along road - Eileen left at 5 pm - I cut south grass (pretty high & leaves down) Read some papers - Boo staying with us account Eileen has budget meetings October 11 1978 - Wednesday - Morning at Otesaga Cooperstown - Very foggy - cleared to a beautiful day - very colorful Walked about town after breakfast - gift shop not open but purchased paper napkins, cards, etc. Took free Tour Bus at 10/11:30 - guide explained Cooperstown history. Left for Oneonta - lunch there at Friendly - drove to Woodstock - walked village - our former house - grounds in poor shape - new swimming pool - via Thruway to New Paltz Mohonk Mountain House - beautiful setting - fantastic building 1979 - Thursday - AM in Williamsburg - clearing - Left for home after breakfast - Routes 64 - 95. Good trip home at 5:30 after stop at Marcus - 468 miles - some snow from Brewster on - back yard and barn roof covered. Grass terrace dogwood and birch in back have broken limbs - terrace pots were not filled strongely enough. House very cold - put on heat. Unpacked. Bed early. Joan & Hooker left Williamsburg after us - they visit Hooker's cousin Janet tonight. 1980 - Saturday - Morning in Boston - overcast - had rained during night. Left at 8 o'clock - Mass Pike (#21) to 86 - to 84. Very heavy rain at Sturbridge Toll - decided not to visit old Sturbridge. After shop at Marcus here at 1130 only 1/4" rain - hard frost killed all terrace pots - vegetable garden - perennial (annuals) Pulled out killed plants. Pike here but very few Mallards and they didn't eat Chased geese 1981 - Sunday 32° at 6 AM - Fair beautiful day sky so clear - color was beautiful. To 8'oclock Mass. Wes put on fireplace tool holder in den - cleaned up garage - put log holder there - cut wood stacked by Wright Tree men. I prepared dinner scalloped potatoes - apple crisp - read instructions on grill. Trimmed and cut up branches at North cliff. To Ridgebury Cemetery at 3 o'clock - Rochambeau troop enactment - Costumes & horses. Eileen here at 4:45 - She had been to Cheshire show - didn't stay for dinner 1982 - Monday. Columbus Day celebration 34° at 7 AM - Some change from 80°, Friday & Saturday. Bought 1/2 round ties for garden edging. Planted bulbs - transplanted rhubarb. Gug fell and injured right wrist.
