October 30 1978- Monday - 24 [degrees] at 6AM - clear. Raccoon had overturned duck corn tray and eaten corn. To Mass. Wes had 10 o'clock appointment with Dr DeCarlo - tooth was capped - home at noon. I cleaned side terrace door - spackled holes in side from old storm door and painted it. Made leek and potato soup. After lunch transplanted asparagus 1979 - Tuesday - Providence - Beautiful day - breakfast at L'Apogee - 17th floor Biltmore - walked Benefit street South and North Main Street - admired Baptist church and all old homes. Back to hotel for cup coffee and to rest feet. Then walked to Railroad Station - State House - very handsome - to Camille's Roman Garden for lunch - walked back to hotel. I had 3:30 appointment for haircut. Wes phoned Marguerite Driscoll - I called Eileen - Supper at Goddards. 1980 - Thursday - 23 degrees at 6AM - clear - left at 8 o'clock - Wes had 9:45 appointment with Dr. Puchner. OK - come back in year. Home for lunch & nap. Raked leaves mailbox to barn gate - cut off daylilies - cleaned inside barn gate but didn’t bag. Raked grass terrace - loads of big apples this year. Geese getting in - Mrs Kilduff said would get rid of them. Wes had shop hour - I cut out and sewed pocket bags for Garden Club show. 1981 - Friday - 44 degrees at 6AM - cloudy - damp breezy - not a good outdoor day. Wes finished stripping sod from turnaround We have a nice pile of sod for the raised vegetable bed. I made manicotti - cleaned house downstairs - blew leaves from deck. Filled some holes at livingroom door in molding. To Country Design for more samples of paper and fabrics. Picked one for our bath. Undecided on powder room. Stoddards took us to Waccabue for dinner. 1982 - Saturday - 46 degrees at 6:30 - watched red sun on rim of hill - after morning cloudiness, a beautiful warm afternoon. Did cleaning and washing. Checked out after breakfast- car from parking structure (only $4.00) to Tess Harding’s, 200 Grotto Ave, for Zone II Horticulture meeting - Wes found Deli - bought sandwiches & coffee - fruit - gasoline - we left at 12:30 - Routes 101, 44, 84 - home at 3:45 after stop at Marcus. Good trip - very good route. Our place looked very neat - Joe Keller had worked Saturday. Ducks (14) waiting for corn. Begonia on terrace froze. 1980 - Friday - 28 degrees at 6:15 AM - clear sunny day. Wes went to Bill Stoddard's to advise on drainage at 9 AM. Mr Ragsdale - lives up Briar Ridge - had flat - used our phone to call AA - waited 2 hours for help! We continued cleaning up fence line - another 5 bags and not finished yet. Chased geese.
