November 9

1978 - Thursday - 36º at 6:30. Foggy - became a beautiful day. Pat here to clean - 3 lengths of drain pipe delivered - Wes started in afternoon on drain from perennial garden to overflow pond. Played golf 10:30-12:30 - good game - beautiful on course - on return I used lawnboy to cut balance of front lawn - across little bridge and dell and west end - place looked good at cocktail time. Walpole salesman here to locate shed - to be delivered tomorrow.

1979 - Friday - 40° at 5:45 - Beautiful before Mass - Shop hour for Wes. Cleaned gutters and back drain. Cleaned and made preparations for cocktail party at 5 pm - Satlers, Ross', Ruth and Billie here.
Duff Price delivered topsoil at 1:30 - truck became stuck and had to call a wrecker to pull him out - left at 4:15. Wes just had been to lay a fire in livingroom and shower.

1980 - Sunday - 22° at 6:15 AM - Cold day - rain at mid morning
To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes worked on Mike Dellman's antique toy. I read papers. Chased geese. Too cold to work at Ballard.
Left for Coggeshalls', Croton, at 3:15. Found Carol had broken leg - Admired their new house - Home at 10 pm. Eileen flew to Houston.

1981 - Monday. 38° at 6 AM - Fair - Watched 5 geese fly south - one Mallard land in pond. Became cloudy in afternoon. I shopped at Basics, left plot plan at Freemans & picked up magazines. Wes started stripping sod - from shop end of house. Joan Mannion sized bathroom walls. Mike picked up junk around house - couldn't put guard on roof of greenhouse and helped Pat Haviland put blacktop on apron and gravel on turnaround. Eileen brought Boo for us to mind while she is in Washington.  

1982 - Tuesday - 38° at 6 AM. Fair - Wonderful weather but dry. To Mass. Shopped Basics
I worked at Ballard Greenhouse 9 - 12 - home for lunch and nap. Raked leaves. Wes nailed down logs at perennial garden. Eileen brought us Boo - She advised on mirror in Powder Room - Wes needs hangers to hang - he hung needlepoint soldier picture back side of livingroom cabinet - putting pewter sconces in their place in bedroom.

November 10

1978 - Friday - 26° at 6 AM. Fair - I put out corntray and we watched ducks land before breakfast - No Mass as left at 8:30 for Tarrytown - took Eileen to John Pasca - She left her car for service - on to New York Botanical Garden - saw conservatory - Snuff Mill for coffee - to Shop in Garden to buy [[?]] for Holmden's Christmas - To Tarrytown Hilton for lunch - To Tarrytown Bakery (cookies & rolls) and Alter's whole wheat, rye & pumpernickle (delicious whole wheat for supper) then home. New woodshed had been erected. Good day 

1979 - Saturday - 60° at 6 AM - Rain - Uncountable Number of ducks for corn - 2 whites and big black fly in from Killduff’s - To 7:30 Mass - always starts early on Saturdays.
To Bethel for corn & shovel (broke one yesterday when truck was stuck) Dolans for [[Sheryl?]] - Booklet for Christmas presents - Pillow for Sally - flowers in acrylic for Pam & Tig
Stonehenge for lunch at 1 pm with Helen & Alex for his birthday - nap - Ron Nurnberg came to measure diningroom chairs

1980 - Monday - 34° at 6 AM - .35 rain in gauge Cleared - cold and very windy. Indoor work in morning - worked in back of house after lunch despite wind - raked. bagged leaves - cut off Iris at side Picked row of carrots.
Wes went for gas and milk. Saw "Hamlet" with Derek Jacobi.
Wes made a small crank for Mike Dellman's toy. 

1981 - Tuesday - 32° at 6:30. Cloudy. Took Boo out 
Wes put barrels to keep cars off blacktop apron.
Didn't go to Mass account Boo. To Sherwin Williams to pick up wallpaper for Powder Room - Joan Mannion worked 10 to 3 putting it on. Jack Masterson brought pane of glass to complete solar greenhouse - finally!
Wes finished stripping sod from front of shop. I painted inside of front door again - didn't cover well. Pat Haviland’s man spread gravel in turnaround

1982 - Wednesday - 30° at 7 AM - Fair - Solar was 50° with kitchen door open. Walked Boo. Beautiful cool day.
Left at 9 o'clock for Odalia, Greenwich, to pick up rug pads - then to Greenwich Garden Center to look - had no stakes but bought Brooklyn Botanic books on rock gardening and shade gardening. Bowl of soup at Koch's Kitchen, Cross River, to Pinchbeck for supplies - gas for car on Catoonah - home. Put pads under rugs - Wes hung mirror in bedroom & powder room. 2 Racoons excited Boo
