November 13

1978- Monday - 35º at 6 AM - Cloudy - Miserable damp day - not good for outdoor chore, although We bought concrete back to close in new woodshed. Earlier he had a haircut, visited Tibor at his shop, went to drugstore, Marcus, wine shop in Danbury etc. Don Kovacs here re delivery of fill - told him had made arrangements with John Murray. I  
did wash, wrapped Christmas presents - made piecrusts, checked tablecloth and napkins for Thanksgiving. No rain- need it

1979 - Tuesday - 40º at 6:15 - cloudy - some light rain - miserable - cold. Wes had a haircut. I prepared for Garden Club Meeting - at 11:30 in Teen Center - Mrs Young on florist arrangements - took Dracena and begonia to Green House. Met Walpole Salesman there on new gate and fence - with Billie and Dolly Wittman. Home at 3 pm. Wes worked in shop.

1980 - Thursday - 32º at 6 AM. Ice on big pond.
Fair - little milder - no strong wind. To Mass. I worked at Ballard Greenhouse 9-12 - stopped for a few groceries enroute home. After lunch cut off asparagus fern - put stakes away - dug remaining carrots. Pulled debris from pond - lots of willow and pine - Wes went for corn and bird seed. To Ross' at 5:30 for a drink.

1981 - Friday - 24º at 6 AM - Clear -Miss Boo didn't get up for breakfast - took her for successful walk later - she met the Judson dog. Howard and Jimmy put in switch for greenhouse fan - switch and lamps over kitchen door. I made chocolate pies and crab spread for Sunday. After lunch to Waterworks for Powder Room towel bar and Basics. Eileen came for Boo at 4 o'clock. We went to Ruth Sharp's for a drink at 5 pm.

1982 - Saturday - 48º at 7 AM - Rained all night stopped about 10 o'clock. 2.30 in gauge - We were happy, Eileen here through breakfast - took Boo home.
Cleaned house - did a wash.
Out in afternoon to rake leaves in corners as big wind yesterday blew a lot over the cliff. Moved St Francis birdbath to center of perennial garden over big buried stone. Filled up small hole along foundation at front walk - all other grading drained well in heavy rain

November 14

1978 - Tuesday - 51º at 6:15 AM - Cloudy - 22 Mallards.
Gloomy morning but nice leisurely breakfast. Re 1973 note Ford Galaxie  now has 80,760 miles - it's been a very good car. I went to Ballard Greenhouse to work - clipped outdoor garden also - Grocery shopped and arranged setup of Homestich Secretary pillow - Wes bought more concrete blocks & finished new woodshed - I cleaned leaves from dam overflow - raked off terrace and at woodshed - mild afternoon.

1979 - Wednesday. 40º at 6 AM. Cloudy - light sprinkle occasionally - miserable outdoor day.
I went to Garden Club Board meeting 10-12:30 - told Joan I would not serve as Horticulture Chairman next year. 
Wes dug hole at front - Sargeant Juniper for pole for hill - going to be difficult to get a post.
Loads of ducks around. Borings were taken in swamp opposite west end - men told Wes will build on the 70 acres - up the hill

1980 - Friday - 34º at 6:15. Cloudy - Mostly sunny in afternoon and milder - high in 50º
Wes had shop hour then raked willow debris from ponds and lawn. I went to Madeline Morrison's to sew on Baskets for Garden Club show - back for lunch. Afterward we used lawnboy on big lawn - below house, across dam to cut and furrow leaves. Wes carried many bags to leaf heap. Looked clean again.

1981 - Saturday - 36º at 6 AM - Cloudy but a beautiful sky in southeast - not too bad a day.
I went to bank, Marcus - Stop & Shop - Cheese Shop - Hardware. Wes put up towel bar in Powder Room - hung mirror and duckling print in Green Guest room - Boxspring & mattress for Blue Guestroom delivered by Altmans - spread gravel & leveled up back walk - I cooked for tomorrow - Columbia shuttle landed at Edwards Airforce Base.

1982 - Sunday. 30º at 6:30 - Clear morning - cloudy and cold afternoon - rain at night.
To 8 o'clock Mass. Desk work - balanced check book - sent maps to Sattrings and Stephensons for Friday's party - blocked Bare Godunoz needlepoint.
To Boehringer Ingleheim's open house at 1 pm - toured Production Building - home at 3:30 for soup. I went to Keeler Tavern for Baroque Chamber concert - home at 6:30 for dinner - Had a fire in den
