December 3

1978 - Sunday - 18° at 6:30 - Watched pink sky in East - 15 Mallards landed on lawn for breakfast corn - ponds are frozen - at one time during day 36 Mallards here. To 930 mass - Priest from St Mary's - Father Posack - Father Medynski sick. Hobbies for Wes - after he brought wood from behind veg shed to woodshed & garage. I did mending - cut beige coat to make car coat - sewed Christmas mats - To Ralph & Gene Ellis for cocktails at 5 o'clock - home at 8 o'clock.

1979 - Monday - 18° at 6 AM - Clear - No Mass - Father ill - Beautiful day, but cold - Shop hour for Wes. I did wash  To white Plaines to pick up Liza's body - Wes buried her in our  dog cemetery - 16 1/2 years old. Prepared driver for Jule - here at 5 pm - Mary Q may be released from hospital soon.

1980 - Wednesday - 30° at 6:45 - Slept late! Very high wind - snow flurries in morning.
Hobbies in morning. Left at 12:30 for Park Ridge, N. J. wake of Dick Lander. Lou Lander so kind and composed. Saw Mr Long - Harry Versen - Charles Martens, pilot and wife - Fred & Mary Lander - Lowell Hubbard. Home at 5 pm. Wind very strong on Tappan Zee Bridge but no problem.

1981 - Thursday - 34° at 6 AM - Dark - Needed lights on to take Boo for morning walk. Cloudy morning - Mostly clear afternoon - [[?]] day for outdoor work. Wes cut down three small trees on front bank - I cut them up. Wes put up oak board siding for vegetable garden. Picked up sprayer & pail from Freemans. Boo has lots of run around place. She was on a long cord

1982 - Friday - 48° at 6:30 - Light rain - Yesterday morning's rain was only .03 but welcome any way. Cloudy - misty day - Mild - a bad run of no sun weather
I shopped Grand Union - returned back to Lord & Taylor as not useable for diary - to Val Casey's Christmas arrangements at Ballard Green 10 - 11 - then left "Bare Gardener" needlepoint at Frame and Art Shop - home for lunch - Wes had worked in shop - made Beef Bourguorne after lunch - Needlepoint Irish Lace Pillow. Heard Manley, Ho[[?]] and Leontyne Price on Channel 13. 

December 4

1978 - Monday - 40° at 6:30 - Rain during night. No Mass as Father Medejuski ill. Light rain most of day - Stopped around 3 o'clock - temperature there was 62° - I raked leaves in back - had to remove jacket.
Wes worked in shop
I finished shortening beige coat to car coat length.
Lots of ducks landing on grass and frozen pond for corn - Very shy.

1979 - Tuesday - 18° at 6:30. Saw sunrise in Southeast. beautiful color - 19 Mallards land on bank of frozen pond. Moved corn try to left - ducks are weaning out grass bath
Wes cleaned den fireplace - opened chaise out & rug on floor fr draft - worked well for evening fire. Put burlap around the front rhododendrons - tied up arvorortae at front walk - took in which beech - put snow fencing around spruce below barn - shop hours for Wes - needlepoint duck for me

1980 - Thursday - 18° at 6 AM - Beautiful winter day Cold but sunny  To Mass  Shop & hobby hours. To Pat Crehan at 10:30 to discuss contract of sale of house. I met Helen Ross at Keeler Tavern for luncheon and window shopping afterward - home at 2:30. Wes had bought new toilet seat for yellow bath and corn However, first day no Mallards around - ponds iced tight.

1981 - Friday - 28° at 6:30  Clear Morning - Clouded up - felt like Snow - Some flurries of snow in Ridgefield - light hail here at 4 pm. I picked up Helen & we served as hostesses at Mrs Harkavy's home on West Lane until 1 pm. Met Mary Luke for lunch and finished seeing other homes on Caudatown House Tour. Wes moved all soil into vegetable beds. He minded Boo - Eileen came at 5 pm for her - spent night with us.

1982 - Saturday - 56° at 730 - Cloudy - foggy - cleared to beautiful day - very mild - all time high reported - we didn't check temperature but I worked outdoors without a sweater. To Bethel for '83 Calendar sheets - Marcies - gasoline - voted for Bobbie Longmire's [[?]] at Ethan Allen - home for lunch & nap - washed car - used up well water on wood planting - Wes drained line down - moved man[[?]] to shade garden rhubarb and compost - Took down a colp[[?]] small trees in North Woods, discovered more Wintergreen
