Pearl Harbor Day
December 7

1978 - Thursday- 24° at 6:30- Fair morning- Cloudy afternoon- mild- about 45°.
I worked at Ballard Greenhouse in morning, shopped at Books Plus- Brunetti's - Yardage Shop - felt to make wall hanging.
Van Schneider - Ed Teclaw, Lon Straehl took Wes to lunch at Hearth - came back to talk - left 4:45. 
Pat here to clean.

1979 - Friday - 40° at 6:10 - Overslept! Had to rush to fix breakfast before Mass. - Wes had shop hour. I planted 6 more Eggplant seeds in spagnum moss - took to greenhouse - worked there an hour - groceries at Grand Union - 5 lbs. [[strikethrough]] sugar [[/strikethrough]] flour on coupon 59[[cent]] - regularly 95[[cent]] - Wes cut dead tree and one live maple at back brook - brought dead wood to garage - other to shed. I washed the car - cut a vest from velvet.

1980 - Sunday - 20° at 6:15 AM. - 4 Mallards came for corn - White duck on ice on big pond. - didn't see Pike today. to 8 o’clock Mass - Hobbies and chores to noon - to Vargas at 12:30 for drink and they took us to The Inn for luncheon. I left the sachets for Madeline Morrison to pick up there - Home at 4 pm. 

1981 - Monday - 32° at 6:30. Beautiful sunrise. Sun 7:07 - 4:26. Mostly sunny day. Enjoyed lunch in Greenhouse. Wes finished driving pegs around raised veg bed boards - having put new handle on the Ma[[?]]l. Placed bell in corner of gravel terrace - I raked leaves there - lots blown by high wind yesterday. Took Bob Coller chairs to New Canaan - left them at Country Design for upholstery. Bought grey towels at Linen Shop. Joan Mannion started our bathroom paper. Mass at 7:30 PM.

1982 - Tuesday - 40° at 6:30 - Beautiful day - Cooler but good to see the sun. No Mass scheduled account feast day tomorrow.
I worked at Ballard 9-12. After lunch & nap - we went to welder in Bethel - Wes left boiler to be welded. He filled his gas welding tank. To Caldors bought a Hoover vacuum for upstairs and blue candles - to Covered Bridge for spruce branches - to make sprays for garage lamps. 

Feast of Immaculate Conception

December 8 

1978 - Friday - 42° at 6 AM - Some light rain in night - Very dark at breakfast before 7:30 Mass. Sun 707 - 427 Light rain off and on all day.
To New Canaan - linen shop - exchanged red napkins for better color (Singletons) - bought Limoges heart butterfly box - to book store for cards - tissue paper - calendar - to Irish Imports Shop for look at chest - to Yellow Monkey to see what they had (nothing for us) home for lunch - nap - hobbies in afternoon. I cut out felt Christmas hanging.

1979 - Saturday - 44° at 6:15 - Cold, clear, windy day. To 9:30 Mass. Wes balanced books - did desk work - bills, etc. I wrote to Joan & Hooker - made cranberry relish - We had hobby hour after lunch - wrote some Christmas cards - Met Helen and Alex at the Old Oak for dinner at 6 pm - saw accident at Danbury Fair grounds enroute. 

1980 - Monday 28° at 6 AM - Mostly cloudy day - Mild - close to 60° in afternoon. To 7:30 Mass. Put fern and ivy wreath outside for spraying. Painted tray for wreath - show is this weekend. Harriet for me at 10:30. Wes took papers to Recycling Center; Wrote cards after lunch - chased geese - we thought Kilduffs had got rid of them - found Pike's feathers under pine tree so fox got her.

1981 - Tuesday - 34° at 6 AM - Joan Mannion here with help to continue bathroom paper - We left at 9:30 to bank - gas - on to Dr Espy - 69th St. & Lexington - found Pinehurst Garage 70th & 3rd - had early lunch - good eye exam no change in glasses - To Pier I - no shelf for Powder Room but bought wine opener - Lord & Taylor blouse for Mary's Christmas. Home at 4 pm. Rainy day - here - alternately snow flurries & rain. I went to meeting of Altar Guild at 8:30 with Gizella.

1982 - Wednesday - 34° at 6 AM - Sun a blaze in East. Our warm weather may be going - Beautiful winter day. Lovely in Solar at lunchtime.
To 7:30 Mass at St. Peter's - Basics for a few groceries - Bethel to leave boiler fittings for welding - few things at Finast (looks like a good store) bank - Marcus.
After lunch rearranged big stone on top of wall garden. Wes put pipe on Judson line - he moved big stone from path (bog garden) to hole near hemlock - I put that good soil on perennial garden - brought old chips to spot behind mailbox
