December 11 1978 - Monday - 10° at 5:45 - Breakfast before Mass Cold, beautiful, sunny winter day. To 7:30 Mass. Wrote Christmas cards for an hour. Helen picked me up and we went to St. Elizabeth Seton's luncheon at Red Lion - sat with Gizella - Afterwards Helen & I went to visit Evelyn Leeman at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan - had to wait 30 minutes while she was in therapy. Beautiful place. Home at 4:45. No ducks came in - Muck on big pond. 1979 - Tuesday - 40º at 6AM - beautiful day - high 60º. Wrote more Christmas Cards after breakfast. I planted last 10 paperwhites. To North Street Shopping Area - Penney's - bought wildflower sheet & cases - aluminum for hot house frame - Christmas tree and pine roping at Covered Bridge, (Mary Luke's daughter) Hung roping at big windows - front light - wreath at front door - spray at garage - Wrote more cards 1980 - Thursday - 20º at 6AM.- Sunny - cold clear winter day. To Mass Prepared plants for flower show. Did wash. Mr. Trocolla - man referred by G. E. Serviceman - came to measure for freezer - Bought new G. E. 13 cubic foot freezer - just fitted in laundry spot. To Aldrich Museum at 2 o'clock with entries - worked on Passing Committee until 5 o'clock - Louise McKeon gave me ride home - Wes met me there. He had worked in shop - Set up fire - fed ducks 1981 - Friday - 24º at 6AM - Snow flurries in morning - cleared around noon. I went to Dr. Yanity at 8:45 - had filling repaired - hope it holds. Worked Ballard Greenhouse 9 - 12 - while there went to Pinchbeck with Sue Bondurant - bought Button Fern Magnolia leaves - home for lunch - picked up deposit on garage lamp from Yellow [[strikethrough]] Monkey [[/strikethrough]] Shutters - deposited Texaco dividend - bought Christmas tree & wreath at Covered Bridge - Doug was to deliver but when not here at 10 pm, Wes postponed. 1982 - Saturday - 29º at 6:30. Snowing lightly - about an inch - Stopped in afternoon. Shoveled walk to front door - broomed it. Put two sprays together with cones and ribbon for garage lights. Wrote a few Christmas cards. To Billie Newell's at 5:30 for a drink - neighbors there - She has a couple since Nancy died on October 6th - Back home at 7:30. December 12 1978 - Tuesday - 20º at 6AM - Off and on sun - very cold winter day. Finished Christmas cards - To Danbury for box to ship Kelly's cloth Christmas Wreath - then wrapped that and Singleton gift and took them to UPS in Brookfield - on to Scalzo to buy new nozzle connector for dishwasher - to Stecks for roping and branches - didn't like trees there. 1979 - Wednesday - 32º at 6:30 - Another beautiful winter day - finished writing Christmas cards. To Ridgefield - ordered meat for Christmas dinner at Brunetti's - bought Taupe sandals - material for "Birds Tree" Luncheon at Inn with Helen - Terry Keller - Lucienne Wes had worked in shop - Put lights on dwarf Alberta Spruce - raked leaves under willow at sheds - Wes brought up wood - We cleaned willow debris from pond. 1980 - Friday - 14º at 6:15. Cold! Snow flurries in afternoon - no accumulation. I went to Aldrich at 8:15 - worked on Passing Committee for Flower Show until noon - stopped at bank enroute home. We wrote Christmas cards after lunch. McGovern picked up the Jacobsen mower for servicing. To Aldrich Museum at six o'clock - Preview Party - won first for Poinsettia & Apple Blossom Amaryllis - Second for Leucothoe - Third for Red Violet Amaryllis - Honorable for Ivy Wreath. 1981 - Saturday - 28º at 7AM - Slept late. Tree and big wreath delivered - put up wreath after decorating it - big job it was heavy. Set up crib - hung Christmas hangings in several places - roping on Stairs - ornaments on white birch branches in blue vase - set up tree on deck after lunch - put on some leglets - too cold to finish. Cut off ivy from rings and spiral - killed by spray Kelthane. Had lunch in Solar, temperature 72º there Just under 40º outdoors. 1982 - Sunday - 22º at 6:45 - Snowing - about another inch - cleared late in day. To 8 o'clock Mass. Were to go to Eileen's for lunch but snow changed plans. However decided to go at 11:30 when snow stopped. Had made cookies and butterscotch brownie and baked the frozen apple pie bought at church before Christmas. No trouble traveling to Tarrytown.
