December 25 1978 - Christmas Day - Monday - 32° at 7AM - 4" of snow - branches down - feeder trays loaded with snow. Wes plowed and shoveled walk & terrace. Satellite feeder broken at end terrace. Eileen here at 11 - Mary and Irma at noon - they had no snow - had a happy Christmas. High winds in afternoon - lots of small winds down. Eileen has a week's vacation. She gave us brass duck hooks. 1979 - Tuesday - 56° degrees at 7AM. Raining, heavy at times. Sun 7:18 - 4:33 - Afternoon mostly sunny and mild - lucky. Prepared for Eileen and Mary who came at 11:15 - happy Christmas Day. Wes surprised me with the silver tray and coffee service from "Farm House" Lock Haven - he bought at Thanksgiving. Lots of Mallards - 4 Killduff whites - and three ugly domestic from Dubays. Eileen & Mary left at 4:30 1980 - Thursday- 2 below at 6 AM - Very high winds - cold fair day - thank god the sun was out - Prepared for visit of Eileen, Kelly (who was spending the Christmas weekend with Eileen)and Mary - here at 12:30. Happy holiday. They left at 5 o'clock. It was 14° below when we went to bed. Covered the kitchen fan with plastic. 1981 - Friday - 32° at 7 AM. Cloudy - cleared in afternoon - night stars beautiful. Prepared for visit of Eileen and Mary here at 11:30 with Boo. Had a good day. Bit called in afternoon - we couldn't reach Holendens or Sally. Girls left at 5 o'clock. We went to Castles for a drink - did dishes and read funnies after return. 1982 - Saturday - 34° at 6:30. Foggy - misty, mild all day - 56° when we went to bed. Sun 7:21 - 4:36. To 9:30 Mass as no 8 o'clock - Never again - folk Mass - Noisy kids. Prepared dinner and house for Eileen Mary and Boo - here at 12:15 - good day - they left at 4:15 account fog. Eileen gave us Russell Baker's book. Livingroom fire was great - house was very comfortable - heat never came on in evening as temperature so high. Fire in den - read December 26 1978 Tuesday - 26° at 7AM - Fair - Wind has stopped Quiet day - Wes worked in shop. I did house chores necessary after the holiday - also made more brownies - Wes loves the Cuisinart recipe Five ducks fly in for corn. Squirrel broke the Satelite feeder at end terrace - we put the small Yankee Droll one there 1979 - Wednesday - 28° at 6 AM - Fair day - high 42° Some winds but a good winter day. Quiet for us - did few clean up chores - washed, ironed etc. Wes worked in shop. I started velvet vest. We filled Jule's bird feeders - she is with her family. 1980 - Friday 12° below zero at 6:30! Cold & clear To record having seen very few squirrels this year. Sun 7:19 - 4:34. High was about 20° - sunny. Laundry drain pipe froze - opened in afternoon we put auto-freeze down the pipe. I painted wall behind new freezer. Wes in shop. Kelly came after her interview at Danbury Holiday Inn with McGraw-Hill. Showed her Bogus property. She left for Tarrytown at 4 pm. 1981 - Saturday - 20° at 7AM. Mostly cloudy Around 32° all day. To Brunette's for ham and roast beef for tomorrow's Open House - and cheese shop. To Cotton Patch shop to look at table for Bernina sewing machine. Came home to measure and decided to buy one - will deliver Monday. Made mulled cider - did needlepoint - first time in ages - Wes worked in shop. 1982 - Sunday. 56° at 6:30. Dark - Mostly cloudy day but mild - Sun 7:21 - 4:36 again To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes cleaned and closed up livingroom fireplace. I started a new telephone desk index - did a little needlepoint. Early lunch. To "Tootsie" with Dustin Hoffman at Commerce Park Theatre - very good. Read in evening. Wes finished A.J. Cronin's "Song of Sixpence" - I'm reading Russell Baker's Growing Up.
