The origin and insertion near to each other, thus increasing its breadth.

Familiarity with the muscles of the head, face and neck and with their location, function, blood and nerve supply is very important to the beautician.  There are 24 such muscles which she should know.  We divide them into seven groups for study and ready reference:

1.  THE SCALP MUSCLE (1).
2.  MUSCLES OF THE EAR (3).
3.  MUSCLES OF THE CHEEK (3).
4.  MUSCLES OF THE EYE (2).
5.  MUSCLES OF THE NOSE (3).
6.  MUSCLES OF THE MOUTH (9).
7.  MUSCLES OF THE NECK (3).

Origin, Insertion and Function of Muscles of the Head, Face and Neck

The Scalp Muscle

1.  EPICRANIAL and OCCIPITO - Frontalis (in two parts) occipital, Frontal.
ORIGIN:  Occipital bone and Mastoid portion of temporal bone.
INSERTION: The Tissue around the Nose and Eyebrows.
FUNCTION:  Draws scalp backward, wrinkles forehead, elevates eyebrows.

Muscles of the Ear:

2.  AURICULARIS SUPERIOR.
ORIGIN: Occipito Frontalis bone.
INSERTION:  Projecting part of ear.
FUNCTION: Raises the ear upward.

3.  AURICULARIS ANTERIOR.
ORIGIN:  Temporal Fascia.
INSERTION: The rounded edge of the front of ear.
FUNCTION:  Draws the ear forward.

4.  AURICULARIS POSTERIOR.
ORIGIN:  Protruding part of temporal bone behind the ear.
INSERTION: Back part of the shell of the ear.
FUNCTION:  Draws the ear backward.
