Muscles of the Neck

22. PLATYSMA.
ORIGIN:  Pectoral Region (chest muscle) and Deltoid (shoulders muscle).
INSERTION:  Front and sides of neck, Mandible or lower jaw and corners of mouth.
FUNCTION:  Wrinkles the skin of the neck and helps depress the lower jaw, gives an expression of melancholy.

23. TRAPEZIUS.
ORIGIN:  Occipital bone, Cervical and Dorsal Vertebrae.
INSERTION:  Posterior surface of Clavicle of Shoulder.
FUNCTION: Draws the head backwards and sideways.

24. STERNOCLEIDO-MASTOID.
ORIGIN:  Sternum (chest bone) and Clavicle (collar bone).
INSERTION:  Mastoid process of the temporal bone.
FUNCTION:  Turns the head and pulls it forward.

There are 6 muscles of the arm and hand with which the beautician should be familiar because of her study of Manicuring, and in practicing the art of Moulding shapely arms and hands.

1.  BICEPS.
2.  TRICEPS.
3.  FLEXORS.
4.  EXTENSORS.
5.  ABDUCTORS.
6.  SUPINATORS.

Origin, Insertion and Function of Muscles of the Arm and Hands

1.  BICEPS.
LOCATED:  Front of arm.
ORIGIN:  Upper edge of shallow cavity in Shoulder Blade or scapula.
INSERTION:  Radius or small bone of forearm.
FUNCTION: Flexes the elbow, turns the palm of hand upward.

2. TRICEPS.
LOCATED:  In back of arm.
ORIGIN:  Has 3 heads, two originating from the humerus and one from the scapula.
INSERTION:  Upper end of Ulna or large bone in forearm.
FUNCTION: Extends the forearm.

3. FLEXORS.
LOCATED:  Inner part of the forearm and palm of hand.
ORIGIN:  The humerus or bone of the upper arm.
INSERTION:  Bones of the wrist (carpal) and bones of the palm of the hand (Metacarpal)
FUNCTION: Controls the movements of the fingers.  They are connected with the fingers by long tendons.  If these tendons become injured or severed the movement of the fingers is hindered or stopped.

4. EXTENSORS.
LOCATED:  Back of the hand and outer surface of forearm.
ORIGIN:  Above knuckles of elbow in humerus.
INSERTION:  Attached to bones on back of the hand.
FUNCTION: Extends the wrist and fingers.

5. ABDUCTORS.
LOCATED:  Imbedded as deep muscles on back of hands.
ORIGIN:  Dorsal surface of body of vena and Radius bones
INSERTION:  Base of bones of thumb and index finger.
FUNCTION: Extends the index finger and thumb.

6. SUPINATORS.
LOCATED:  Imbedded as deep Muscles on back of hands.
ORIGIN:  Ligaments of the elbow joint.
INSERTION:  Back and sides of radius.
FUNCTION: Assists the biceps in turning the hand upward.
