with no chemical effects. It is of low frequency and is used for remedial purposes. Use of this current is called FARADISM. 

EFFECTS OF THE FARADIC CURRENT

1. Develops the Muscles.
2. Soothes the Nerves.
3. Induces Sleep.
4. Increases Blood Circulation.
5. Stimulates the Glands.

APPLICATION OF THE FARADIC CURRENT—

In using this current for facial or scalp massages, the patron holds an electrode, while the wrist electrode is attached to the wrist of the operator. The current is turned on, and the usual manipulations are then given; the current passes through the operator's finger tips to the skin of the patron.

The faradic current should never be used on a person suffering from high blood pressure or with gold-filled teeth.

SINUSOIDAL CURRENT

This is an interrupted current which travels in waves or parts of a circle, thus accounting for its name (part of a circle). It is similar to the faradic current but because of its deep penetrating power is growing in use as an effective means of eradicating wrinkles. It is also especially well adapted to use on nervous, irritant patrons because of its quiet, soothing effect.

Application is made in the same manner as the faradic current.

THE THERAPEUTIC LAMP or RADIO BELL LIGHT

This is an electrical appliance which is cheap to purchase and should be owned by every Beauty Shop. It is very beneficial in stimulating and quieting the nerves.

The Radio Bell Light is provided with a white light and two colored bulbs, one red and one blue, which may be used on both the scalp and the skin.

THE USES OF THE RED BULB ARE:

1.  To increase the blood circulation through its heat rays. 

2.  To assist in the drying of all kinds of facial packs.

3.  To keep witch-hazel packs hot when softening blackheads or in treating the skin when it is dry, wrinkled and scaly.

4.  To loosen scalps that are tight and unyielding.

5.  To force hot oils into the pores of the scalp when giving hot oil treatments.

6.  To be used on the face, without creams, at which time its action becomes purely chemical. It should also be used to drive creams into the skin but should not be used too long or dermatitis will result.

THE USES OF THE BLUE BULB ARE:

1.  To quiet the nerves.
2.  To be used on the scalp as an antiseptic and in cases of infection.
3.  To be used in treating diseases of the sebaceous glands of either the face or the head, as it has excellent curative powers.

CAUTION: The eyes should always be protected during a treatment with the therapeutic lamp. Cotton pads saturated with boric acid is an effective agent for this purpose.

ELECTRIC STEAMER

In recent years a very effective apparatus for therapeutic uses has made its appearance on the market to replace the old practice of using hot towels for steaming purpose. This is the Electric Steamer. It is a nickle-plated dome, mounted on a pedestal which may be adjusted to desired height. It is equipped with an electrical
