HOME TREATMENTS FOR ACNE

Aside from recommending strict adherence to the acne diet, it is well to advise the patron to faithfully refrain from picking the pimples, avoid the use of any but the mildest, preferably medicated soaps; bathe daily; reduce the use of cosmetics entirely: and dust the affected parts several times daily with powdered calomine, or lightly apply mild zinc oxide ointment.

DISEASES OF THE SUDORIFEROUS (Sweat) GLANDS

The common diseases of the sweat glands with suggestions for their treatment are as follows:

ANHIDROSIS means a deficiency of perspiration. It occurs as a result of fevers or certain skin diseases and results in the skin becoming dry and feverish. By eating more regularly, drinking 8 or more glasses of water daily and strenuous exercise to encourage perspiration this condition may be overcome.

HYPERIDROSIS is excessive perspiration caused by excessive heat or general body weakness. This may prove a dangerous condition possibly indicating gout, rheumatism, tuberculosis, etc. Night sweats are especially dangerous. Vinegar and water, witch hazel and other astringent baths may be beneficial, but extreme cases should be turned over to a physician.

BROMIDROSIS or OSMIDROSIS means foul-smelling perspiration, usually noticeable in the armpits and feet. It is thought to be due to the mixture of perspiration with the secretion of the oil glands. Treatment consists of cleansing the affected parts often and thoroughly with Mme. C.J. Walker's Vegetable Oil Antiseptic Soap and dusting with Mme. C.J. Walker's Floral Cluster Talcum Powder or frequent applications of Mme. C.J. Walker's B-Sweet, an effective cream deodorant.
