Dodger Theatricals
Broadway Buzz
by Mary Denham

A New Year is here, and along with the fun and festivities come lots of resolutions. But don't fret - change is good! Broadway certainly thinks so. Beginning January 7, 21 shows, including 42nd Street, Urinetown, The Lion King and Aida, will raise their curtains at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings instead of 8 p.m. [[image]]TUESDAYS AT 7[[/image]] Dubbed "TUESDAYS AT 7," this 12-week program hopes to encourage New Yorkers (and everyone, of course!) to visit Times Square to enjoy an early show through March 24. The time change was instituted after a study showed busy theatergoers wanted the option of an earlier curtain time. 42nd Street's sexy star Tom Wopat announced "Tuesdays at 7" in conjunction with Tourneau, the official timekeeper of the program. Now you can catch a Broadway spectacle and be home in time for the 11 p.m. news. There's never been a better time to be in the audience. For more information, visit www.TuesdaysAt7.com.

Meanwhile, back on December 3, URINETOWN reached a major milestone: its 500th performance. In typical tongue-in-cheek fashion, the Tony Award-winning show celebrated its status as Broadway's 348th longest-running production. Hey, they tied Panama Hattie! So go ahead, laugh! The sold-out audiences always do.

Does "42nd Street on 42nd Street" sound redundant? Actually, it sounds perfect. However, during the first year of its run, audiences had to buy tickets for the Tony Award-winning extravaganza at its 43rd Street box office. Not anymore. 42nd STREET is proud to join the ranks of blockbuster neighbors who open their doors onto the New 42nd Street. Along with the American Airlines and the New Victory Theaters, The Lion King, internationally-renown Madame Tussaud's, and the architecturally acclaimed McDonald's, 42nd Street is thrilled to represent the new and improved face of Times Square. Remember, you haven't done Times Square until you've seen 42nd Street. Now that Barbara Streisand is married and retired, there's nothing else to talk about, right? Wrong! A new Off-Broadway comedy is coming to the Westside Theater that will make the diva's distinctive nose crinkle with laughter. BARBRA'S WEDDING is the first play written by movie actor Daniel Stern, a real-life neighbor of the superstar's, best known for his roles in the Home Alone and City Slickers films. David Warren directs this production about a former TV sitcom star grappling with Babs' impending nuptials (right next door) while simultaneously dealing with his own marital woes. Will he be able to remain calm, or will the paparazzi drive him over the edge? Even Mrs. James Brolin will have to buy a ticket to find out. Buzz Buzz.
