City Cmairman James B. Brothers spoke briefly. Dr. Kovar then presented Private First Class Henry Morss, member of the United States Marine Corps and who recently returned to the States after serving a period of time in the South Pacific area. Commended USO Pfs. Morss commended the work that the USO is doing for the men and women overseas and in the States by saying that the motto "A home away from home," is one of the most appropriate of its kind he knows. Also present and representing the armed forces of the United States were Yeoman Ralph Redding, Sergeant Merril and Private First Class Franci. Dr. Kovar them called upon Captain E. J. McDaniel, who spoke on the necessity for the citizens of the county to back up the present drive to the best of their ability so that they may feel they have done something worthwhile towards the allied countries and their men and women who are serving in the armed forces. Walter P. Schenck, secretary of the local Chamber of Commerce and director of the drive, introduced the principal speaker, Miss Ya-Ching. Miss Lee was educated in China and England and has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, United States and Canada. She was the first woman ever to be issued a pilot's license from the Swiss government and has been most active in aiding the Chinese during their period of disaster. Relief Work In 1937 she became active in relief and hospital work in the large coastal towns of China and has traveled over 50,000 miles to tell her story to the people of the States and Canada. She thanked the United States for the assistance it has given her native country and stated that the help given means more than from the material standpoint, for it has given the people of China encouragement to go on. (Opposite Montgomery Ward) Evenings by APPOINTMENT--Ph. 1850 Fund Campaign Rally Is Held This Morning ---- Interesting Talk Given By Chinese 'First Lady Of Air' ---- Citizens of Uniontown turned out in full force this morning to hear the inspiring talk delivered by Miss Lee Ya-Ching, a good-will ambassador to the United States from China, in the State theater at 9 o'clock. Prior to the opening of the rally for the War Fund campaign, which is now going on throughout the county as well as the nation, the United Senior High school band gave a short concert. Dr. Dan R. Kovar presided over the meeting and introduced the speakers of the morning, the first of whom was Judge Ross R. Matthews, who spoke briefly on the campaign and stated that he felt certain that the most effective weapon of victory was the will of the people to attain the will to win.
