The parade led the way right into a big tent at the edge of town. Bitsy read the sign over the entrance:
THE MOST COLLOSAL, TREMENDOUS, STUPENDOUS SHOW
ON EARTH
(5 cents)
Little Bitsy did not have five cents. In fact, he did not have one cent. But he wasn't worried about money. He simple flattened himself out on the ground and slid right under the side of the tent.
The clowns were tumbling about [[strikethrough]]in[[/strikethrough]] the ring in the middle of the tent. Then a doll house caught afire! Some of the clowns dressed as firemen drove out in a tiny fire truck and put out the blaze. It was very funny.
Bitsy laughed and clapped his hands.
The bears then came out to dance. They were very gay, tipping their hats to the crown as they went around the ring.
Bitsy waved to them and shouted with glee.
Next came the seals with their large candy-striped balls. They juggled the balls on the tips of their noses and played mouth organs at the same time.
And all the while Bitsy leaped in the air and sang.
Then the elephants filed into the center of the ring, each one holding onto the tail of the elephant in front of him. The lead elephant was very small and carried a flag in this trunk. When the Ringmaster came into the center of the ring and snapped his little whip, the elephants began to form a pyramid. The crowd held its breath until the small elephant with the flag was safe at the very top of the pile.
Full of wonder, Bitsy gasped and waved his red scarf.
The Ringmaster called the ticket taker and pointedwith his whip at Bitsy.
"Who is that little wire making so much fuss?" he asked.
"He did not give me his five cents," said the ticket taker.
