Inspt of Schools, transmitting petition of colored people of Lynchburg. for gift of one of Government Barracks at Camp Schofield, Lynchburg. Va for school purposes. The Barracks have been borne on Bureau returns. Urges that the petition be granted and that the Bureau waive all claim to the other two Barracks; States that two buildings were used, and may still be required for Military purposes. Endorsed by Maj. Geo. Q. White. D.O. recommending that two of the buildings be turned over to the Military in consideration of their assuming the whole of the rent, and the remaining one be given to the freedmen for school house provided that an association is formed with a responsible board of trustees. With remark. The recommendation of Maj. White is approved. |

One building on Alfred St. Alexandria. One building at Charlottesville. One building at Warrenton. Buildings at Yorktown. Fort Magruder and Drummonstown erected by the U.S, on land owned by private parties. No rent has been claimed. One confederate building at Danville, on land for which a claim is about to be made for rent. |
