Now, regarding the Whistler Nocturne, I regret to say that I cannot let you have it this time. Since it was placed on exhibition at Buffalo, there have been calls for it from all over the country, all of which I have declined. I loaned it to Montross last spring to aid in the little group of masterpieces he then exhibited, but after discussing the matter with Mr. Whistler, I do not feel like loaning it again until an important exhibition of his work shall occur. Personally, I would really like to let you have it, but you will, I am sure, quite understand the situation.
