My dear Sir:--

Let me thank you for your good letter of December 6th, expressing your kind congratulations on the recent addition, "Thames in Ice", to my little group of Whistlers.

I am also greatly obliged for the clipping from the "New York Sun" of November 3rd, being an appreciation by Mr. Caffin of the work of Mr. Whistler. It is a well written article, and quite a pleasant contrast to the sort of trash one usually reads concerning the Master in the American Press.

I am also glad to have the copy of the Brooklyn newspaper, giving an account of the exhibition of art made up from your private collection. What a delightful specimen of Rodin's work yours must be! And what joy it must give to all who love real art! To me it has long seemed that Rodin occupies in sculpture a position analogous to that of Whistler in painting, etching and lithography.

With kind regards from Col. Hecker, in which I beg to join, I am,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer
