I will here give a statement made to me while at the town of Wharton after the effort to [[?]] my son (for what it may be worth) by a freedman. It is this, that, he overheard a conference between Capt Horton, Hardy Brown and employers. In case Neil was given up them, they would pay him for doing so. This freedman was unknown to me. nor did I learn his name so the communication was made in the streets of Wharton I hope you will not think this tiresome but entreat you most earnestly to give me justice in this matter as perhaps you are the only tribunal that I can appeal to for my rights, therefor pray the return of my child. with Respect Your obt Sevt
