General
I beg leave to call your attention to the increasing necessity of extending the operation of the Freedmens Bureau over this county. The rights of Freedmen are in many instancies [[instances]] totally disregarded They have been drawn into unfair contracts, and I know they will be defrauded out of the pittance which has been promised them, unless your authority is interposed.
I am hapy [[happy]] to say, the conduct of the freedmen of this county is good. They are working honestly and faithfully and conducting themselves well. There is not an idle one within my knowledge.
As a loyal citizen I have taken the liberty of addressing you, that justice may be done a class of people who are worthy of the protection of the Government and I hope you will grant it.
I respectfully refer you to Mr Jas A McKee Com. Merchant Galveston
