books and office furniture. The large correspondence I have from all quarters, from employers not able to see me personally makes the postage & Stationery items rather heavy; but if the Govt. thinks I am not entitled to reimbursement, I have nothing to say. My last months postage was $8.00 which is embraced in the present months estimate

The services of a clerk are absolutely necessary at all times, and frequently I could keep two employed. My duties frequently calling me from home, it is indispensible that there should be some one in the office to represent me as far as possible in keeping up correspondence, making notes of cases for adjudication, making out reports &c

My services I cheerfully render to the cause and the Government, if my country thinks them due.

Office rent is perhaps the dearest institution (house rent of any kind) in this place, much higher than in your city. I have put it down to $20 which is what I am giving this month, Recollect that anything here is "specie" no currency scarcely in circulation.

Please send my estimates on at once, and instruct me what to do with those returned, and I will try to have them right next time

Send me such blanks as I may require for the statement of my actual monthly expenditures, fuel blanks &c

Hoping that all things may be arranged satisfactorily
