291 280 #33 Ferry Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, July 18th, 1904. William S. Marchant, Esq., #5 Regent Street, Waterloo Place, London S. W. My dear Sir:-- A letter came from Mr. Cowan this morning, telling me that the price of the two extra paintings by Mr. Whistler, entitled "The Angry Sea" and "Ostead, Surrey", would be £300-0-0, which is entirely satisfactory to me. I have sent him a check direct to-day, in settlement for his account, and I am enclosing herewith a voucher in your favor for £ 15-0-0, being commission of 5% on the two pictures. You will also find a draft enclosed, to your order for £9-11-0, which together with the credit balance sent with your letter of June 18th, amounting to £ 5-9-0, will balance our account to date. I thought it was wiser to settle the matter in this way, so that both your books and mine could be balanced. Trusting it will be entirely satisfactory to you, I remain, with kind regards, Yours very truly, Charles L Freer P.S. Please receipt and return the enclosed voucher at your convenience.
