Sumpter Trinity Co Texas Decr 8th 1867. Lieut. J.P. Richardson A A A Genl B.R.F. and A.L. Austin Texas I have the honor to invite your attention to the following statement given me by Mrs. Jamison the widow of the teacher who died at Columbus this summer. I am so firmly impressed with the truthfulness of her statement that I unhesitatingly recommend the discharge of Mr. E.M. Harris S.A. Comr. She states that her husband was while teaching at Columbus forced to leave town on account of yellow fever. She went with him. While there (4 miles from town) her husband was taken sick and remained so 2 weeks and 4 days when he died. During the time he was sick both she and her husband sent in to Columbus repeatedly for medicine and a Doctor to Harris both of which he failed to send them. The day that J. and Mrs. J. sent in six times sending word too that her husband was dying for want of medical attendance.
