for me. They are now in charge of Turkish officials enroute to the Imperial Museum in this city for Hamby Bey's personal inspection. What their future destiny may be I know not. In fact, I am out of the game; retired with good feelings between the authorities and myself. I stood a good chance of eventually getting part or all but, I gave up everything unasked, hoping thereby to find a way to getting much finer winnings the next time.

The real owner and would be shipper of the sculptures is now somewhere in the great Syrian desert with his horse and followers, and officers on his trail with a warrant. The next result to me is heaps of excitement, a lot of experience, some new friends of a mixture found only in this Empire, and a debit in my cash of just
one hundred pounds sterling - contingencies still unadjusted £25 to 30. This poker game has run through nearly one month, so I suppose, I should not mourn over my modest losses. The forndoliza games never approached this one!

This afternoon I bid my farewell to this land of surgeries and go by N. Y. L. S.S. "Bayern" direct to Athens, I had intended having a peep at Ephesius enroute, but time prevents. I am sorry to leave so much behind me, including my one hundred sterling, the finest summer climate I have ever experienced and oriental art galore. But Athens and the art of the Greeks are before me and they lessen the pangs which I shall feel in an hour when I go on board. After about four days at Athens and two at Corfu, I shall go via Trieste to Vienna and Budapest. The first week in August should land me in Paris. Thence London and home about Sept 1st depending upon which steamer, of which I shall cable you word as soon as determined.
With all good wishes, Yours sincerely,
