Dear Colonel Hecker,

I think that I was wise in leaving Detroit as early as I did, for when the rush ended and I was really at sea, I found that my system was out of key. The ocean trip did me good but Would have done greater good had it been longer.

However, I am planning to remain here until about the 28th or 29th and so will have a chance to catch up. After London, I shall go to Ostend, Bourges, Ghent, Brussels, Mons, Antwerp, Berlin and from Berlin determine where thereafter. The museum buildings thus far seen are helpful principally in showing me what not to do. I have purchased a few superb objects and from letters and telegrams arriving directly from Cairo, I judge some very important things are awaiting me there.

The Sinadano collection, the best private one in all Egypt, which I inspected in Alexandria last year, and out of which I was allowed then to make some fine purchases, which later they would not deliver, now is again offered to me. This time I am told they will deliver all I selected last year. If this is true, I will get some perfect Egyptian objects --- but they will cost a lot of money. However, I shall not count my chickens until they stand upon their feet.

I met Mrs. Will Croul and Rowena at the Wallace Colln. yesterday, they both seemed very well. Trusting that you and yours are enjoying the best of health,

Very sincerely,

Charles L. Freer.

Long hand.
