My dear Colonel
Referring to the letter sent after from London late last week in connection with financing my recent purchases, and the possibility of my purchasing this week, the "Valparisio Nocturne" by Whistler now in the McCullough Collection. I have the pleasure of telling you that the picture became mine today. Mr. D. Croal Thomson of Wallis & Son, (The French Gallery) of 120 Pall Mall, London, 3.W. carried the deal with the McCullough family through for me.
 
The price is £3.000. at London, and this is to be telegraphed on July 14th or earlier at your convenience, to Wallis & Son at the address in London named above. Messr. Wallis & Son are in Pall Mall next door to Brown, Shipley & Co. This three thousand pounds will be needed in addition to the proceeds of LS & MS Bond of which I have already asked you to sell, and dividends due July 1st so, I have just cabled you-
 
"In addition to proceeds of Bonds, shall require fifteen thousand dollars July fourteenth wired to London. Please arrange. Letter explains"
