DEAR PROFESSOR CLEMEN-

Your very kind letter of February 22nd came in this morning's mail, and I hasten to thank you for your courteous appreciation of that part of my collection shown you recently at my home. I was greatly disappointed to be away at the time, and I am hoping that during your present visit in America, yourself and Mrs. Clemen may find it possible to come to Detroit again and afford me the opportunity of showing you more of the art of the Far Orient in my care. It is a real pleasure to feel that appreciative visitors from the Old World find interest in American Art. As you doubtless know, until recent years American Artists have been quite neglected, but I am glad to say things have changed very much for the better and a number of our younger American Artists are at last coming into their own.

Your interest in the work of Mr. Leon Dabo is of great importance, and in Detroit where he has many well-wishers, your commendation will be appreciated, I am sure.

With cordial expressions to yourself and Mrs. Clemen, and looking forward with pleasure to meeting you both personally some time, I remain,

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer
